No further action in regard to the Lino who 'elbowed' Andy Robertson. Great decision. The abuse officials get, surrounded by overpaid Prima Donnas, is beyond belief. Just wish he'd hit Robertson harder.
Quite right too. What was Robertson doing anywhere near the linesman. It looked to me like an excuse to draw attention away from the fact he’d grabbed the Lino by the arm, the Lino just reacted to feeling someone grabbing him. There’s too much crowding the officials, trying to influence their decisions. it’s about time it was stamped out, just allow the captains to talk to the ref no one else, book anyone overstepping the mark. Something that really annoys me is when players gesture to the ref suggesting he should book an opponent. If I was a ref I’d book anyone who did that to me.
I see it differently, the officials are there to uphold the rules/laws of the game. There is no excuse in my book for the linesman’s gross overreaction to a player approaching, and if he did touch him ( the video evidence is inconclusive) then the touch was minimal. It that was another player doing that with the same slightest of touches, if at all, it would be classed as retaliation, a red card and ban would follow. It cannot be ‘swept under the carpet’ because it’s an official. What example/precedent does that set?
I remember the bald Italian referee Pierre-Luigi Collina Just a stare from him had players quaking in their boots! Very good ref too. Strict but fair.
He was the best because the players knew not to mess with him. The rubbish that officials have to face every single week is beyond acceptable and the game needs to give more respect to the people that run the game on the pitch. It doesn't happen in rugby but yet it is allowed to fester in football and it has to be addressed before next season, whereby strict rules are brought into game to stop players gathering around officials at each decision and certainly not standing in the face of an official giving them shtick.
There’s no need to approach the linesman, it’s not a case of brushing it under the carpet imo, if as a player you touch an official it should be a straight red. The example we certainly don’t want to set is it’s ok to touch an official in any way, imagine the affect it will have at grass roots level of this isn’t stamped out straight away, we’ve enough problems recruiting officials as it is, imagine how much worse it would be.
But it’s been happening for years, players approaching officials, even grabbing/pushing them, look at Germadez in the Liv V Man Utd game. This isn’t new, Robertson isn’t the first player to do this, but it is the first time an official has reacted to it
Imo it has to stop, it shouldn’t happen, but it’s gradually crept in I agree. It’s time to put an end to it. Even crowding around the officials should be stopped. We all know some officials are crap but there’s no excuse for getting in their faces. I said previously it annoys me some players put imaginary cards up suggesting a ref should book a player. As Mike said Rugby doesn’t put up with it, football shouldn’t either. it’s killing the game, people aren’t putting themselves forward to be officials, especially at grass roots level.
I can't believe this comment. So it's been happening for years. Ffs Supcon all that means it's been flaming wrong for years. Ps Supcon we await your playing days.
I never said it was right for players to crowd/ grab officials, read the comments. It’s being made to sound like Robertson is the first player ever to do it.
