Linesman v Robertson

Robertson was holding onto the refs arm, the "elbow" (lmao) was a "get the **** off me" response.

As Robertson was way too close to the refs face, this shrug clipped Robertson's chin, likely causing the ref a bit of discomfort as it rubbed against Robertson's five o clock shadow.

Robertson, the pillar or manliness that he is, immediately tries to make a big deal out of it. "DID YOU SEE? DID YOU SEE?"

This is when it becomes an issue for me, now Robertson by making a big deal out of it, is directly threatening that refs job. Refs don't get "fines" or a 3 match ban. They get fired.

Mitrovic was given an 8 match ban for shouting.

Agree with every word.

This was 100% Robertson's fault. He made contact with the linesman and then got accidentally caught when the linesman tried to shrug him off. There should be no further action against the linesman and a decent length ban for Robertson for putting hands on an official.

He should have broken his arm imo... been saying it years get in some really hard refs and officials and they'll stop bullying them.

The assistant ref's get **** off the players all through matches and god knows what the abuse must be like being so close to the fans, it's a thankless task and all for the princely sum of £30,000 a year plus an £850 match fee, Robertson was the aggressor approaching the assistant ref and sadly for the guy he is the one going to be pilloried for this, all the pundits jumping on as well are pricks.

Players shouldn't be grabbing officials.

Love how everyone saying robertson approached him aggressively.

Everyone’s seen the same clip where you can only see him walking towards him.. how the hell anyone knows that’s aggressively is behind me? You’ve no idea what was wasn’t being said and in what manner it was being said.

You also can’t actually see from the video if he does touch him (he probably does touch, but to say he grabbed him is a bit OTT as the video footage is so distant you can’t see clearly).

Robertson clearly just in more shock that the guys elbowed him more than anything.

Said on our board, lino has overreacted and done a drastic get off fling his arm up in the air. Doubt he meant to hit Robbo, but silly thing to do.

Id hope that Robbo and lino can get together have a quick chat, both can just apologise to each other, say was an error on both parts and total accident and just move on from it.

Should just be a nothing incident on both sides but media have massively blown it all up

Also Roy Keane calling him a baby for talking to the linesman is the biggest pot calling the kettle black I’ve ever seen.

It’s a shame neville and Richards bum him so much and carra prob scared of him that didn’t wanna call out the numerous times when Keane would be in the referees face during game.

or maybe remind him of the time he went and injured Haaland just cos 4 years ago he stood over him and told him to get up and stop faking an injury

Why is he even approaching the linesman in the first place? He clearly gets in the linesman’s space and he had no reason to. The officials need to stop responding to players - just ****ing ignore them and start booking them if they don’t back off.

Football fans are dreadful when they can't override their emotional decision making. I've seen it on here on every matter and Liverpool fans are obviously the same.

He was walking past him on his way to the tunnel so not like he ran half the length of the pitch to remonstrate with him. ‘Gets in his space’ is a bit much, just walking past each other.

As I say, until you know what and how it was said it’s hard to judge. Everyone is making assumptions which is dangerous.

What I do agree on and have banged the drum numerous times is refs just need to book anyone that comes up to argue.

Thing is, we all have sympathy for refs and stuff but they don’t help themselves.

They don’t book players who surround them, then will randomly book one player who moans in the 89th minute.

they won’t book any one for time wasting then will book the keeper in the 93rd minute at a gk.

they don’t give fouls when players stay on their feet, then moan when players exaggerate contact.

Its like they’re scared that if they book 8 players for surrounding them, or have to send someone off after 60 mins for a second yellow after they were booked for time wasting in first 30 that fans/pundits/media are gonna come for them.

Fa/prem whoever need to come out and say from now we will be implementing rule X much stricter. Let everyone know so no excuses, if you surround the referee in an aggressive manner, if you run 40 yards to moan, you will get an instant yellow. No one will be able to complain about it as they will have been told

Liverpool are a bad bunch sticking their fingers up at the away dug out the lot .

I don't dislike the fans but their team manager and staff are unpleasant.

This really doesn’t look like walking past him. It’s a 10000sq m football pitch. There is absolutely no need for him to get this close.


I am not having a go at Liverpool players in particular - all teams are doing it but it really needs to stop. The referees are talking too much with players - they need to stop. They don’t need to explain decisions, just get on with game.

Lino will lose his job over this and Robertson won't give a ****

If Robertson was a female he'd have got some support but he's just a big baby unfortunately.

It should be no touching of officials whatsoever apart from a handshake..none of this putting the arm on shoulder when talking to them etc, if you allow some touching it then allows this sort of thing to creep in like the Mitro and Robertson incident.

If you touch a ref or lino apart from a handshake instant 5 match ban, they'd sharp stop doing it.

If you are saying the video doesn't show clearly enough that Robertson grabbed the linos arm, then I would state the same video doesn't show clearly enough the lino actually 'elbowed' Robertson - rather he just shrugged his arm towards Robertson.

You can't say one is accidential/didn't happen, while the other is a blatant assault, purely based on that poor quality video footage. If the lino gets in trouble, so shouod Robertson. End of.
