Have you been to Anfield? I have, good atmosphere for about 5 minutes when they're singing their little song. Then it just dies off, people chatting about what they're having for dinner and stuff.
St James' was the same when I went. In fact, every game I've been too was the same, apart from Tranmere Rovers and Bryne FK here in Norway.
You know what, I genuinely think for the average fan, they watch it on the telly a lot, really do enjoy the game for the game, like having a beer and a few snacks and then they go to an actual match, fulfill a dream.
They realise its cold in a stadium, everythings expensive, the seats are ****, you are far away and its just boring. So you end up just chatting to your mates who you're more excited to see than the players, wondering were you go for your after game drinks.
Its hardcore types like @Libby who make up the away fan crowd who thrive at a football game.
