People who work close to the top echelons of uk coaching tell me Mowbray, amongst his fellow coaches, is regarded as top class. By every account he is trusted with top clubs best young players. If they trust him we should, in my opinion. I look at how much improvement the likes of Hume, Roberts, Clarke, Michut, Neil have shown under him and wonder who would achieve the same. Hard to identify anyone unless we are playing fantasy football. Before Neil was appointed I said we should go for De Zerbi. He was out of work at the time, and probably wouldnt have come, but our next coach will be someone of that ilk in my opiniom. Mowbray has another couple of years work to do yet, before we should worry about replacing him.
Roy Keane is the greatest manager we've ever had, and you know it...admit it! You're kidding yourself!
Probably but the club will already have plans for our next head coach. If the right person becomes unexpectedly available there’s a decision to be made. We’ll always be looking to upgrade the squad and same will go for the coaching set up albeit you need to take even more care in the coaching side. I’m not saying get rid but sometimes a deal comes along you can’t pass up.
TM is perfect for this club right now, fits the model perfectly as he is happy to play and develop the young players (he actually seems to relish it), is also from what we have seen a good manager (coach or whatever his title is), improve the medical/coaching team and facilities for next season to avoid injuries a bit better and a couple of signings and we will kick on again next year. The football is fantastic to watch!
Just on the issue of Mowbray and I think he has done a cracking job bringing on the young guns and getting them playing fantastic football what is his contract situation how long did he sign up for how long left on his contract.
I completely agree with this. But if we're not looking good for promotion next season, some of our fans will be calling for him to be sacked. Patience is a virtue and football fans don't have any.
That’s one possible fly in the ointment. If we continue playing fantastic football, I hope that the vast majority of supporters will stick with the manager and the team. The improvement in different players has been excellent to watch as well. We are more likely to be a success in the Premier League if we can build really strong foundations. I reckon that we are a couple of years away from that.
Agree with you both. Better to watch us play really good, exciting, attacking football and be competitive every week than go to the premier league and struggle! There is the argument that parachute money would help if we went up and straight down but still would be ****e to watch in comparison to now!
Interesting. Yet my opinion is based on how he can get into the head of a player, in the right way, to bring the best out of him...like Keane did. They both kept the game as simple as they could....And as simple as it is. Some say that their style of football wasn't all out attack, however, they never disencouraged the flair players, did they? Keane played in arguably best team ever team (The Class of 92) which was awash of flair, grit and determination lead by a manager that he has learned from. I disagree that managers from the past, should stay in the past. The modern day managers are also vulnerable trying to make their own mark in the modern game...a' la, Lampard, Potter, Gerrard and Jones etc. I'd have either Keane or big Sam back...
More injuries: Bailey Wright - suspected broken leg. https://www.si.com/soccer/sunderlan...rs-suspected-broken-leg-in-championship-clash
Fair enough mate. I doubt Keane will ever manage again to be honest. I cant see why anybody would approach him. I honestly dont think he has much to offer the modern player and I doubt his personality will allow him think differently. He walks away too easily as well. Allardyce was ahead of his time at Bolton. Now though I dont see it at all. I doubt he will want to manage again either, unless he is getting paid top whack for a short term gig. I just think he has faded away. Mowbray can motivate a player I have no doubt. He said he gave Jack Clarke a right bollocking at half time and look what happened. Mowbray, in my opinion, right now is a much more rounded coach than either of them right now, and understands the value of not having to deal with player purchases etc. He has mors time to really coach players. I dont see either Keane or Allardyce being able to do that now, or willing to be honest.
That's the bit I don't understand people thinking he's not capable of taking us forward in to the PL because of his previous jobs. The bloke never managed a top club where he could sign who he really wanted, he is well known for giving youngsters a chance and developing them, when has he had a team with this many top class young players. Maybe this is the model that best suits TM and he is exactly what we need, it's a head coaches job and will only work with a head coach, every single name that has been mentioned is a manager. Just look at AN he made all the right noises to get the job , how he was happy to be head coach, he did the job but once we were promoted he tried moving the goal posts. What we have achieved this season is quite simply amazing and a lot of credit has to go to TM, I'm quite happy to keep him as long as he keeps producing not get rid of him when we get promoted because some people think he may fail
When it comes to replacing him, hopefully cause he has retires after providing plenty of more seasons of the football we are watching now (we all know what has prevented us getting a lot more points on the board and it hasn't been TM or the way the team have played under him), we will struggle to replace him imo! We will be looking for a manager that is happy to be a Head coach only which should be the easier part, the difficulty will come in finding one that is happy to play very young players a lot of bedding young players in to their first season of 1st team football. Most managers want experience and one or two young lads at most. We do it the other way around and most managers would balk atthe idea imo.
