How many on here where at Boothferry Park, Christmas 1965 when we beat Millwall 1-0 with over 40,000 there? Not a bad crowd for a 3rd division game. Biggest crowd in the country on the day if I remember correctly. It was even commented on the main BBC tv sports news that night. Both teams were battling it out at the top of the division, with City eventually finishing as champions.
Remember the only goal at the North stand end, an own goal at that, but not many realised it on the day, Harry Cripps? Bit of a goal mouth scramble, I was stood right up against the barriers in the North Stand and just remember an enormous cheer as the ball nestled in the back of the net, players shaking hands then trotting back to the centre circle. Sure Tom Wilson who we signed three years later was Millwalls number five that day.
It was a quick turn around in those days and we were at The (old) Den the following day. City enquired before setting off as to the state of the pitch and were told it was perfectably playable. When they got there it was frozen solid, and unfortunatly our kit man, if we had one, hadn't packed the right boots/studs for the state of the pitch and City spent 90 mins slipping and sliding all over the place and losing 3-0.
I never dreamt at the time that the crowd would be the biggest home crowd I would ever see City play in front of. It wasn't even that much of a surprise at the time, it was almost expected and it was pay at the turnstile on the day.

I was there in the North stand, I remember kids were being put on the track next to the pitch as the stands were too full..

I remember playing for City Jnrs. away at Middlesborough in the FA Youth Cup at Ayresome park under the lights. We enquired about the state of the pitch and were told the same as above when we arrived it was frozen solid and we also did not have the correct boots/studs we were skating all over the place and lost 4-0.The message from midldlesborugh passed on from a former hero of mine and still is Raich Carter.

I was there - watching Alex Stepney in Millwall’s goal. I was stood in North Stand. Remember it being very cold and the pitch rock hard. Also having to wait ages in the dark surroundings having gone through the children’s turnstile and having to wait for my grandad who was in the massively long adult’s queue before making our way to the terracing.

This was my first ever city game as a young lad, that I attended (hence my user name). Was smitten for life destined to be a a tigers fan, attending for the rest of the season and all following seasons since. Remember they played at the Den the next day and was totally upset that my dad would not take me with him to see the return game. . Happy to see a 1-0 win again tomorrow

Taking my Mrs for the first time cause I’ve got a spare ticket so I fear if we come away with 0 points and an abject performance I may be coming home single

Take a look at your previous match day thread, he's seems incapable of reading and accepting things even after I've explained 3x now.... He seems to think I'm questioning liams character because I liked a post asking why we didn't set up against Rotherham like we did yesterday. That same post containing a separate point with questioning Liams character. So because I liked it I'm questioning Liam's character, even though I've explained 3x on that thread and now once on here, why I liked it.

But yer im the melt....

I only liked this because I love cheese melts, not sure about your other point

I was there but it was a particularly sad day for me (and the school mates I usually went with) as it was the first match following the sudden death of one of our best match day pals - Dennis Kaiser would have loved it. RIP

I just hope that with extra segregation, more stewards , all police leave cancelled and prohibition for the day the Millwall fans can be kept safe from what are apparently the most violent fans in the country, especially at a time when problems are increasing in stadiums they are at the MKM in particular according to the HDM. The Millwall fans must be feeling very nervous. Surprised they are risking coming.
On the other hand if they have read that BS they may regard it as a challenge and to make a point and cause may them like they did at the Cup game. In which case expect to see loads of City fans in court and banning orders handed out whilst Millwall fans are untroubled by Humberside’s Finest. And the trouble at the Derby is forgotten about and no action taken against anybody.

Didn’t go to the Chelsea replay?
I did. You must be telling me the attendance was greater than the Millwall game?
Hadn't realized that fact, or had forgotten. I was also @ the Bridge match.
Chelsea 2 - Waggy 2. Great match, can't recall where we slept that night!

Yes, it was. Over 45,000. Over 1,000 more at Stoke Cup game as well. But the Millwall game was the biggest league crowd at BP in the time most of us have been going.

If you are referring to the Stoke FA Cup tie several years later, the capacity had been reduced by then to 42k

There also. Waggy beat Banks twice that day too if I recall correctly. '72? Bloody 'ell, almost 51 years ago to the day!
