Tuesday, pipe burst in bathroom, had about 20 minutes of water cascading through floor into kitchen below, mainly through the light fitting.
    Unsurprisingly electrics tripped.
More surprisingly wednesday morning lights are back on. Nowt else is though.
Is this just a waiting game now?
    Any advice welcome.

Sorry to hear that mate. I avoid anything to do with water and/or electrical at all costs. That's why God invented plumbers and electricians. Apologies no help at all.

Start by plugging in something, into an upstairs socket and a downstairs, that comes on straight away, like a fan or table lamp. Get someone to watch.

    Switch all the lights on.

Knock off all the individual fuses including the main.

Put the main, usually big red one, back on.

Switch each fuse back on, then off, until something trips.

If that happens you've located the problem.

If not try switching the fuses back on and leaving them on.

Give that a go and post the results.

If it goes badly, and you don't return, I'll start an RIP thread for ya <laugh>

Don't know how you got on mate, but obviously the first thing to do is get the leak fixed and let the ceiling dry out.

Your trip will probably stay in. But the water can seep into cables, so if you know a spark with the kit, it's worth getting it tested.

Unfortunately I've got a couple of T shirts for this, as been said call in the experts, can be costly but it's peace of mind when it's sorted. Good luck.

Advice has generally been if it doesnt dry out then call an expert, but no one seems to know how long to give it.
Have tried the switch off stuff but nowt.
Phone low on power and battery pack flat so going off line for a while. Not saying this for sympathy but dad died last week so meeting my brother over there later - paperwork hunting again, thanks dad! - so will recharge phone. Actually that's prob why dont feel too bothered by no electric.
Anyway on plus side, toilet blocked this morn but unblocked it first go, thank you mega thick cling film.

If you have no power you can take a lead from a light socket.

B&Q would sell you the little plug in but remember it won't be grounded so don't plug too many things in and don't throw wine into your laptop.

At least you'll be able to fire up the TV or Internet or phone.

I've done this and didn't have any problems but forget it if you don't like the idea.

The main thing to do is , with the main switch on and the trip switch or switches on, switch all the circuit breakers off.

If thectrip still trips you have a fault that needs tracing, or maybe drying out in your case.

If it stays in, switch the circuit breakers on, one at a time . When one of them trips the trip switch, leave that off, and you might be okay.

If this doesn't work you'll need a guy in there, as it could be a deeper problem.

General feeling (real life & tinterweb) seems to be wait a random time to see if it dries out then call someone.

Let's see how long my patience lasts.

This morning the power came back, hooray!
(Yesterday the car conked out, injector, so hey ho)

But, after a week, I can have toast again!
