So you’re only a Saints fan if we’re able to play against the big six or seven that you despise so much.
Ha not that we really deserved it but MOTD literally didnt mention us. At all. Oh well only a few more weeks on it now.
Exactly. 37 of the players Manchester City have bought since 2019 cost more than our record signing. 37. Which kind of puts it in context.
As an investment/transfer decision, he certainly has been. And he’ll be 29 by the time we’re officially relegated. Massive waste of money and very little sign of anything from him in the (admittedly few) minutes he’s been afforded.
He’s got more resale value than Carillo, but yes, he was bought for Jonesball, and as a bit of a panic. Still, he’s not the reason we’re in trouble, but then he’s also likely not the answer for getting out of it.
He was alright against Chelsea. Nearly scored a header against West Ham. Obviously he’s a slow lump that isn’t going to press, but so are other successful strikers. Might as well build a team around someone that can actually finish?
I've got no idea if he can finish. But I'd quite like to find out. And more importantly, find out now rather than in October. I would suggest that there's a much bigger chance of him still being with us next season than Selles. So in that sense, I'm not too interested in what Selles does or doesn't want.
Yeah.. as someone else mentioned; today I understand getting legs in the team. But against West Ham, Leeds and other teams around us Selles is far too negativr
[QUOTE="OddRiverOakWizards, post: 16623670, member: 1011594It's the Leeds and West Ham games that disappoint me.![/QUOTE]
But when it really counts (WHU, et al) we are just ****te. Today was a nothing, free hit game. We’re not bottom of the league & going down because of losing to MC, only getting 1 point vs Spurs, MU, etc. It’s getting results vs the bottom half & we are just crap at that, Manager, team, squad, take your pick.
Just doesn't look good enough. He is slow and cumbersome, and not particularly great in the air either for someone so tall. I think we would need to completely change our playing style to suit him. Not saying that he will NEVER be the answer. I think there is certainly a usable player in there, and in time we could find ways of getting the most out of him. But right here and right now, I wouldn't be starting him. Bring him on late in games perhaps, but that's about it.
Ruben Selles on KDB’s comments about Saints needing a striker: “I didn’t feel that a nine would give us anything different, that’s why we played with Kamaldeen and Charly.” #saintsfc Does he know more about football or less about football than KDB?
Or does he just have a job managing the team where he can’t just turn around and say ‘Yep, Kevin’s right - it’s a lost cause here because we’ve not got one single player who has been reliable in front of goal for us and we’re totally ****ed as a result’?
KDB is referring to Saints in general, over the past few seasons. Selles is talking specifically about the game yesterday. It seems fairly obvious that the best way to try and play against City is on the counter, and to do that you need your fastest attackers playing. Look, for example, at the Sulemana run in the first half, when he stole the ball and ran the length of the pitch. Playing someone like Onuachu is better when you are dominating the opposition and getting balls into the box regularly. The more deliveries, the more likely one will be well-positioned for him to nod it in. But, when you only attack sporadically and crosses are rare, having someone like Onuachu is a bit of a waste. So, who knows, maybe at Home to Palace, Onuachu might be the answer.
100% this. I get the frustration that he wasn’t used more against the teams we were struggling to break down, in fairness. But then it actually seems, when he has played, that we’re as bad at crossing as we are shooting. Selles seems to be very much of the Spanish, technical school of thought, and as a result I just don’t think he particularly rates Onuachu. He was bought for Jonesball, as has been said. But then Selles also needs to be a bit more practical and flexible in the situation we’re in. Again, one of these instances where both things can be true at the same time.
