Both finishes were great but credit to Sørensen and Hernandez for excellent through balls for the assists as well.
Yep agreed. And a clean sheet would be really satisfying if we can squeeze it out. We haven’t been perfect defensively with a couple of lucky/last ditch blocks but with both starting CBs off injured it all helps show progression defensively, which we are really going to need at this business end.
Great win but the injuries are a worry, that is the majority of the old guard/leadership group out with McLean, Hanley and Gibson. Time for the young guns to step up for the rest of the season
We seem to be a force away from home but generally poor at home. Injuries to both Hanley and Gibson could be a big problem. This is one of the most topsy turvy seasons that I can remember: nothing seems to follow form.
Should effectively consider it 2 points off the playoffs. So it’s clear what we need from the last six games…
Sørensen's intended through ball was actually deflected into Gibb's path by a blocking defender! No matter, this afternoon the pass he intended would surely have been just as good. IMO Lungi's name should be first on the team sheet from now on. He deserves it, and his play justifies it.
Four wins out of six should do it, I think. That would be 72, with a better goal difference than Millwall (probably) and Blackburn (certainly), which would mean Millwall needed eleven from six, and Blackburn twelve from seven. And we would only need to get past one of them (unless one of the teams below us suddenly hits table-topping form). And I believe that Millwall are due to play Blackburn on the last day, which means at least one of them has to drop points.
I didn't see any deflection, so I need to look at that again in the highlights. My eyesight has never been great and old age is making it even worse. As for Sorensen, I assume he'll be needed as a central defender for the rest of this season, so he'll be on the team sheet. Shame, because I think he's done well in midfield. He's a calming influence, and there's a lot to be said for that.
To me Millwall's remaining fixtures look a lot easier than Blackburn's. Probably just as well given Blackburn's game in hand. I feel we are going to need pretty much maximum points from the 5 easier games, and whatever we can get from Middlesbrough.
Time for Jaden Warner to step in to the first team maybe? It was in similar circumstances 2 years ago that Omobamidele was thrown in so time for another to step up, or perhaps it will be a CM such as Regan Riley or Flynn Clarke.
I agree. Target is 15 points for me. All being well, 14 points ought to do it, but better to overshoot and have momentum going into the playoffs. Especially as our form against the current top six is won 3, drawn 2, lost 6 (plus lost to Blackburn in the FA Cup) - though a bit better if you exclude the top two, from whom we have won just the single point. (Form against top six looks better under Wagner, with won 2 and lost 2, and also won both against the playoff sides).
