Of course not. He's paying peanuts for this current promotion.

Seeing that it's a viable plan to raise revenue by selling the naming rights and many other clubs are following the same route it doesn't mean it's going to put potential sponsors off in the slightest because we don't like the name Sports Direct Arena.

I'll be honest. If Sports Direct just paid £10 million per annum to NUFC for the rights:

    1) Sports Direct would have a good deal on thier hands
    2) The club would have £10 million additional revenue per annum
    3) I couldn't give a crap about the name because it's still St. James' Park to me and my 5 year old daughter will be brought up calling it St. James' Park.

    Different test version though.

No company would buy the rights to add thier name before St. James' Park because it still includes the St. James' Park in the title. It didn't give them value for money in the slightest.

Would you want to pay a few million a year to have yourcompanyname@st james park?

    I wouldn't.

This new test version is a far more viable option to generate interest.

Unbelievable how negative some of you muppets are. We are doing ok and have a decent settled squad with hopefully additions in the Jan window. We are on course to break even and be able to run ourselves as a self financing organisation. We need extra money to invest in the team to compete with the other big clubs in the division.
So I`m happy to wait and see if this works after all TO ALL OF US IT WILL ALWAYS BE ST. JAMES`S PARK.

What you seem to miss or not understand is that if a company buys the rights to the stadium name...............they can call it whatever the hell they want.

The Sports Direct Arena may become The Ribena Baby Park; Sportsdirect@StJamesPark may become The Aldi Stadium; St James Park would become whatever the hell the company who buys the names rights wants it to be.

They dont need spoon feeding by a pair of clowns 'suggesting' they call it arena.

    Its absolute tripe!!

    Laughable!

You really go along with this???!!!

I don't miss that fact at all and understand the situation about naming very well thank you.

I've worked with this type industry for years and know how much sponsorship affects a business in terms of appeal.

    Take Toyota for example:

They were trying to expand into the European market for decades but always found one thing went against them when it came to sales and that was the fact that they were Japanese; even though they were making the cars in Europe.

They opened a war chest to negate this fact of geography and began sponsoring tournaments and teams. Rugby World Cup in 2007 was a prime example. Shirt sponsors of sporting teams throughout Europe and this did change the persepctive of prospctive buyers and Toyota went on to become the largest car manufaturer in ther world.

This stuff works for businesses. It raises the profile and ifa company wants to rename St James Park then fine as long as revenue is generated.

It's not tripe. It's going to happen far more frequently.

If it works. fine. But they couldnt have gone a worse way about it if they tried. thats my point.

The Toyota Arena for example wouldnt bother me. The fact we turned ourselves into a national joke to get their, has.

More a pop at Derek Llambsar5e than Newcastle fans this one.

How many free signings do you think they can afford to buy with this estimated £10m extra revenue? I'd go for 2 before all of the £10m is spent on signing players for no money.

That's right they do. For all we know come the summer part of that £10M may pay for Welliton's signing on fee & 2 years wages.

Not really the best PR for him, don't think he minds about PR, it's Mike it's about making money, in this case money for the club.
