Is that aimed at me? I said that I wasn’t blaming him but I was the one who pointed out that if he had been more bold in his positioning that he could have cut the cross out. IT WAS AN OBSERVATION.
Not particularly, just generalising from a number of posts on Twitter and the Echo site all blaming Baz, there is no doubt he was in the wrong place but he may have had a valid reason for his decision?
I wasn’t “particularly” emoticon-0105-wink blaming Baz, because I have never claimed to be an “expert”. Baz could have been reacting to how they rehearse these types of free kick routines in training, where he pulls off save after save, which would justify his positioning. Having said that I think a more experienced keeper, such as Fabianski, at the other end, or the likes of Martinez, Allison etc would have come for the ball. It’s all hypothetical and I only raised it as a topic for discussion.
I remember Dave Merrington talking about the “after you, Claude” mentality in our defence. When was the last time a Saints player bawled another out for making a cock up? To my mind you really have to go back to Jose Fonte for that. Some of our players need a good kick up the arse during game time and for goodness sake, where is the inspiration coming from?
I wasn't saying the goal should have been disallowed, just offering an excuse as to why it took so long to make a decision?
Offsides now is just too murky. What is “interfering with play.” All the offside runners moving toward the keeper aren’t interfering? It just needs to be more clear for the players, fans, and officials. The fact it took so long tells everyone the rule isn’t working.
Nor was I. I was responding to your original comment about “experts” blaming Baz for the goal. I haven’t mentioned offside.
