I don’t buy into any of this focus on other results going for or against us just yet. Right now whether or not we stay up is entirely dependent on whether we can get enough points to be competitive at the end of the season . Most statistical models seem to out safety at around 36 points. But if we insist on looking at other teams too: Ignoring us, from Palace downwards for all teams to get to 36 from before this weekend would take a total of 83 points from 84 games. Essentially a point per game. Today was 8 from 6. So not the best but not awful. The alternative view is we need just 3 teams to be worse than us by the end. But as yet we don’t know which 3 that will be. So until the end we cannot say if it was good or bad. (If it’s Leeds, Leicester, Forest, then today was brilliant) But again, none of it matters unless we get to a competitive position around 36 points. It’s not realistic (or healthy) to hope/expect the rest to not pick up points. In all likelihood all but 3 will get to 36+
Or, to put it another way, if you saw a doctor and he said you have cancer but with treatment you have a 73% chance of surviving it, would you be booking a family knees-up-I've-survived-cancer party and saying your survival was all but certain? Vin
I played online poker as a primary source of income for a couple years back when it was booming. Trust me: 73% is anything but certain. 99% isn't certain. I have the psychic scars from their uncertainty still. Bournemouth winning is unfortunate, but not a bad set of results overall. Leicester/Leeds losing and Forest/Wolves drawing work to our favour. Win tomorrow and, comically, we'll be one point off 14th.
Not going to worry about other results because we still need to get the points to stand a chance regardless. A lot of games to be played, many will go ‘against us’, it’s what WE do or don’t do that really matters.
He had to go. They’ve looked abysmal for ages. Shame for us. They’ll improve now. I find it mad the commentators on sky are still defending him.
It'll be interesting where Rodgers goes next. I still think the Forest owner could pull the trigger on Cooper at some point (and if they were to lose to Leeds in midweek, their remaining fixtures thereafter do not look nice). But I'm not sure if Rogers would throw himself straight into another relegation battle. Maybe Palace in the summer? I'm presuming they won't keep Roy, even if he leads them to a safe 12th place finish. Whereas if Gracia keeps Leeds up, I presume he would stay on. I don't see any other obvious PL vacancies emerging before, say, October. (If you assume that Spurs, and potentially Chelsea at some point, wouldn't be interested.) One consequence of there not really being any mid-table this season, is that there's a reduced chance of a manager leaving during the summer. Clubs higher up will generally want to keep their manager, and clubs lower down will generally have changed manager relatively recently.
Suspect there’s be no interest in his part, but we should at least ask the question In reality he probably needs a few months break, but if he wants to be straight back in we’ll see him in a Leicester dugout next weekend
New owners same mistakes. Potter was clearly meant to be a long term project at Chelsea. They should have stuck with him.
13 managerial departures in the prem this season the most ever 2 a piece from Saints and Chelsea and potter has also been involved in 2
I presume Leicester will at least try and see if Potter would be interested, but my guess would be no. Maybe not until the summer, at the very least. But as I said earlier with Rodgers, I don't see too many PL jobs becoming available between now and about October. Unless they're willing to move abroad - or maybe Spurs can extract De Zerbi out of Brighton (I don't think Chelsea will be going there again!) - they both might have to wait a little while.
