Probably something that comes with experience, but Mara should have been charging down the near post rather than sitting in no man’s land when Ely is there on the edge of the box. Just a slight nick could have got something.
Mara looks so isolated as well. Having zero pace from wide areas or midfield means there is always plenty of time for West Ham to regroup when we do come forward. Feels like it takes ages when we are breaking where West Ham were in behind a couple of times with someone carrying the ball and then playing a relatively easy through ball
****ing atrocious. Get Mara off immediately. Like Sunday league. Ely and Armstrong too. Would also hook DCC as he will probably get sent off. Just horrific supporting this pathetic team tbh. Absolutely pathetic all round
It's like that quote from Band of Brothers. Once you accept the fact we're already relegated, it becomes much easier to support saints.
In some ways I’d be more concerned if I were a West Ham fan. Saying that our front three are crap is hardly a revelation. If you look at their squad, they have a bunch of PL quality players (unlike us) who look equally crap.
An ok 1st half undone by typical poor defending at a set piece. Alcaraz for Armstrong Onuachu for Mara I'm in two minds about replacing Ely because he does track back well a lot. Attacking Saints have been woeful.
Moyes has clearly done his homework. Give us the ball, pull 9 players back and ask us to play through them. We’ve had some decent possession near their box but we have been so negative in supporting the attacks. I don’t think JWP has been within 30 yards of their goal yet. He needs to be pushing on more. Definitely need Charly on for Stuart (who looks unfit to me) and maybe Sulemana for Mara, but in a deeper role so he can pick the ball up and run with it.
I did hesitate before doing so, but apparently we’re already relegated, and the game is over, so it doesn’t matter.
I hope that this is a positive for Saints, but we do seem capable of shooting ourselves in the collective feet, and pulling defeat from the jaws of victory
