Trai Hume is another great piece of evidence that the football people are pretty good at their jobs. To come from Linfield and hold his own at this level is a revelation.

I cant remember a better signing tbh, he is right up there with the best, and we have had some great players in my time, but Luke is a one off he really is .

Quality wise he seems to get better and better every game. Barely ever makes a mistake. I'm struggling to think of any other player as versatile as he is, shows his intelligence.

Brilliant tonight, that race with Tella where he shoulder barged him, either Tella ends up in the stand or the ball is shepherded out. No scenario where he gets a cross in, love it

Made me smile as it was clear on the replay that Tella was the one who thought he could be aggressive and shove Luke out the way as he went for it first!

You might beat the lad with skill but you have no chance against him when it's a matter of determination to win the ball like that! He went flying twice and then started to have a niggle. What I love about 09 is in that situation he stands his ground and doesn't back down but is never the aggressive one!

Hard as nails, and the combination with Bracewell was as good as it gets, but O'9 has the qualities of both players imo, and much more, hence the rating but like everything else its only arbitrary. <ok> .

Other than the 9 percent shares,he's only remaining reminder and survivor of the Chaz and Dave era, and I'm glad he is here.

He's this teams Kevin Ball, and every team needs one but doesn't necessarily have one. He was great yesterday and has been a number of times this year. Definately in the player of the season argument, for sure. He's not as good as Bally though, is he? If we go up and he does it in the PL, I'd listen to the argument. Until then, just happy to have him in the team. Unbelievable attitude. If he stays a few more years will be a Sunderland legend regardless.

I don't understand people periodically saying that he's becoming or he'll be a legend/cult hero, when he already is one :emoticon-0112-wonde
He's proved his doubters wrong (and there have been a few on here) for years now, those who've said that he'd struggle at 'the next level' at each stage, and continues to do so . . . . not just doing so, he's excelled at whatever level and in whatever position he's played and he's already a legend.
Other players have done very well, but he's different and most of us love him. How many players get away with, or even think about kissing other players, having piggy-backs, taking the mickey out of his disclocated shoulder with those slides, or smiling in the face of severe provocation ?
He's fecking brilliant and he's 'one of us' :emoticon-0111-blush

He's not a legend. I'd give you cult hero. I'd also say Nyron was a cult hero, he wasn't a legend either. In fact he was absolutely awful at times.

What's the dif (honest question) between a legend and cult hero? The only thing I can think of is a legend maybe is over a longer time period. But he's already 5 years in so...not long now :emoticon-0148-yes:

Good question and the answer it appears is something like this
Somebody can be a hero for 15 minutes, a day, maybe a month, but eventually over time, heroes are forgotten,
legends do something so extraordinary that they will never be forgotten.
Luke. Kevin or Nyron :emoticon-0125-mmm: You pays your money and takes your choice <laugh>

For me, a legend is purely performance and achievement based over a long enough period of time. A cult hero can be an average player who has some high points in his time with the club and some enviable qualities (hard, skillful, mental, leader etc etc) who the fan base continue to love long after their time with the club. Super Kev is a legend. Quinny is a legend. Marco, arguably, is a legend. No way is O'Nein up there with those players yet. Just my view.

Seems to me like it's a longevity thing.
Before my original thread was merged with this one I said that Luke was well on the way to becoming a legend. I stand by that and maybe if we get to the Prem league and he holds his own...then he will be an official legend.
