After our Prince has got involved FIFA have agreed to let the home nations wear the poppy on a black armband.

Glad sense has finally prevailed all it took was national outcry and a few days of people giving there 2 cents opinions.

FIFA still a bunch of idiots though :)

Now every international is open to charity or political pressure to have insignia put onto football tops

What happens to the first guy who doesn't want to wear it?

I think FIFA set a dangerous precedent by backing down on this issue. The poppy issue should never have been an issue because it has no place in football. There is essentiually no difference to this and visiting players having to give the salute when playing in Nazi Germany.

Nobody's saying anything about rememberance day or poppies in general, just that FIFA has blanket ban on this sort thing for a reason. It can give a platform to what could be a questionable political stance. By giving way to this now, what do FIFA say if Israel wants to mark its occupation of Palestine, or a Afghanistan or Iraq want to celebrate the dead who fought against our troops.

Nobody's saying remembering the dead is a bad thing, but that this isn't the right place for it.
