You say that as though you think he'll need it!! I see he's playing at right back - behind Brentford's Aaron Hickey. I doubt Cyprus will get too much joy down that side.
Defensively, I thought Ryan Porteous was outstanding in the first half. Everything he did smacked of quality and class. What I really liked was his positive passing. His positioning was good but when he got the ball it was sharp and crisp. That's the way it should be played at the back. Willie Miller
I thought he was fairly consistent throughout the game, even though Cyprus were more of an attacking unit in the second half and posed more of a threat. His only blip was a yellow card for the deliberate tripping of a forward who ran past him with the ball - but that was near the middle of the pitch rather than near Scotland's goal. I wouldn't say he was outstanding, but he was certainly rock solid - if selected, it remains to be seen if he can replicate that against Spain. I suspect he'll have a different role though - can't see the coach playing with a back three against Spain, so he'll likely be in the centre of a back four.
Not heard this about a watford player for a bit ! From the BBC. “A prodigious nod forward from Ryan Porteous”
Almost put a hex on him with that - was beaten to a header in front of goal by Joselu, who luckily headed the ball against the crossbar.
Wow 2-0! Personally would be a great confidence boost for Ryan if Scotland hold on and keep a clean sheet .
Heart in mouth moment there - Porteous dived in where angels fear to tread to stop a shot & hurt his ankle.
Probably due an injury or poor game for us . Think he has done well so far all things considered and taken it into his International form .
Hold on in the face of some cynical fouls by the Spaniards - have lost a lot of respect for the cheating sods. Constant fouling, simulation & arguing with the ref. The first half ref was so fed up with them that he didn't come out for this half. Porteous is having a great game - has probably added a few million to his transfer value.
