Thing is, the language barriers in the league have gotten so bad I am sure everyone's Inability to communicate in any meaningful way causes even more trouble.

This should be used as an opportunity to kickstart a change in behaviour towards refs. I think a long ban 10 games is appropriate as a line in the sand that this behaviour is unacceptable.

As part of this though, referee's from next season should be miked up so that decisions made by them and VA R are transparent.

If there is clear communication between refs, players and managers then the likelihood of players getting aggressive towards officials should decrease

That can't be true as in order to get a Work Permit now in the UK you have to have either passed an English Language test, got a GCSE in English or obtained a degree taught in English.

They should check all the Mangers and Players to confirm that they have one of these.

As a person who has passed a language test, and someone who is regularly around foreign citizens who have "completed 500hrs of language lessons"

    They're ****ing dreadful

Especially the European equivalent of an English GCSE, its extremely easy

That's just something to impress and shut up racists imo, they have no idea that basically EVERYONE in Europe has a GCSE in English

But it might stop !M'tumbuku from the Village Itatiti, South Africa

    Urgh, are you serious?

Players might fight square up to each other while playing, and in training, but doing so to the referee completely goes against the ethics of being a professional footballer. A standard 3 game ban would send a clear message then shoving the referee and trying to threaten him really ain't that bad, it's just the same as a bad tackle really.

Cantona's tackle isn't a valid comparison, but had that been on the ref, I could see him getting a life ban. The correct comparison Di Canio, and nothing like that has really happened since as it was such a shock back then.

A 3 game ban is suffice.I notice nothing ever happens when teams gather around the ref demanding cards, argueing decisions etc granted he's not manhandled but I'm sure he feels threatened and then teams demanding certain refs not do their games,so if people want to make an example start with those teams and those antics, just saying.

    ps I love international week.

Didn't Bruno Fernandez put hands on a linesman?

Racial slur - 8 match ban.

For what it's worth, I don't think the PGMOL have a grip on anything. They're incredibly ramshackle, confused, biased, corrupt and incompetent.

No excuse for touching the refs but they have partly brought it on themselves with how weak they are, they let players abuse and crowd round them without doing anything about it, this is the next step if you don't stamp that out.

He rightly deserves a ban until the end of the season.

That said, The FA and the PL have been awful at dealing with player/red incidents such as swearing at the ref, chasing after the ref, group shouting at the ref etc

Change is required by all parties involved.

Don’t agree with the refs being partly responsible because they are **** at their job. No one deserves abuse at the workplace.

Yeah, it's literally the equivalent of a pupil shoving and threatening a teacher, or an office worker squaring up to and pushing their manager in a meeting.

I can't believe anyone thinks this is just like a standard 3 match ban for a foul.

Like I say I think 3 is to light but the suggested 10 game ban is ridiculously harsh considering the ref isn't grabbed or harmed in anyway and he's not moved at all apart from the shoulder. It's definitely a red card, definitely a longer than usual 3 match ban but 10 games? 5 for me would be appropriate, up to 7 to make an example of him but a season ending suspension would be mental!

I'll be honest, all this bullshit can be nipped in the bud by making the punishments for such things properly penal, for the club.

People should NOT be shoving and intimidating refs. It sets a horrific example to kids and aside from that, it's despicable to watch. Swarming the ref, never mind laying your hands on them should be severely dealt with. 10 games is BS, 3 games is too little for me.

IMO, yellows / reds are not really working for situations such as this. Make it points. Financial penalties are nothing. 3 pts minimum would hit them where it hurts.

There is a real problem with refereeing competency / VAR usage, which is being put further under the microscope by social media and this needs to have a drastic improvement, which will hopefully aid with on the pitch respect.

In line with that improvement and a clear, penal line on laying your hands on officials, refs need to be much stronger and any hounding of refs should be a yellow. Players involved in an incident, plus captains, should be the only players allowed to question the ref. Anyone else should be in the book.

Finally - divers. VAR should be able to retrospectively punish this on the pitch. You do it, you get pulled. End of.

Probably about right, they are making an example of him and if that was a top 6 player it would have been 4/5 games but a deserved punishment if a little harsh IMO.

Not harsh enough. Not only did he lay his hands on him he also chased and berated the ref. Awful

The chasing and shouting at ref's happens every weekend at just about every ground. It's not good but he can't have a harsher sentence for shouting/berating otherwise Man U and Arsenal wouldn't be able to field a team most weeks.

The pushing though it unacceptable, but 8 games is more than adequate.
