"Culture warriors" aren't insisting on it. The people who have adopted these things have transformed their meaning. That's how symbols work. A thing becomes symbolic of another thing. Something silly: the swastika remains a benign good luck symbol in some places. Place I work receives a product made in India. There are two options, and the factory marks which option is in the box with a little ink stamp. The stamp? A swastika. Something we only realized after a customer called and asked WTF, as they assumed we had done it. So then we had to Sharpie out a bunch of swastikas so that customers did not think that we, a company owned by an Orthodox Jewish guy, were Nazis.

Surinder Arora, the Group’s founder and Chair, has strong links in the Conservative Party. As well as being a donor, he was previously a member of its Business Advisory Group. On top of this, his firm appointed the former Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond, to be chairman of Arora’s advisory board in 2021. You can read the full extraordinary story here. The hotel quarantine programme was both contentious and wasteful. The National Audit Office found that the scheme cost £757m, nearly double the predicted £428 million. And the scheme was expensive for people using it – a family of two adults and a child would pay £367 per night for 11 nights. Adding yet more insult to injury, our new revelations about the Arora Group coincide with the recent leaking of WhatsApp messages showing the former Health Secretary, Matt Hancock and the Cabinet Secretary, Simon Case, mocking users of the hotels scheme and boasting about travellers being “locked up” in “shoe box” rooms. A spokesperson for the Arora Group said: “The Arora Group was awarded quarantine hotel contracts after participating in the official tender and procurement process” that was carried out by an agent appointed by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC). Okay maybe I was being slightly facetious, but you said that until a public left wing figure used the phrase NPC then you will reassess how you consider it's meaning. It hasn't been de facto considered a indicator of being right wing.. it's an innocuous gaming term and should be left as such.
Heads up for next month. Armageddon Text Date Set The first nationwide test of the UK’s ‘armageddon alert’ system will be made on Sunday, April 23, ministers said last night. As reported by this paper last week, millions of people across the UK will hear an alarm from their mobile phones, along with a text message alert. The system, modelled on schemes run in Japan, Canada, Holland and the US, will warn of danger to life such as floods. Phone users will be able to opt out of the alerts.

No point worrying about any of that. The global climate emergency is going to turn us all to toast toute-suite.
Cruella Braverman in breach of rules shock, being reminded of her legal responsibilities by the Speaker of the House. And she has no excuse for not knowing the law, being a barrister. I wouldn’t even let her be a barista.

I was considering watching the Johnson hearing but I can’t stand the sight nor sound of the idiot. The man clearly and deliberately misled parliament and the people with his repeated and ridiculous assertions that he did not mislead them deliberately. I would actually take this further, should the panel find against him. Extend the investigation to those who repeated his lies, in his defence. Amputate the rotten parts to save the rest of the body, which in this case is decency, trust and integrity l I will just add this and hope that it is considered after Johnson has made his incoherent, nonsensical comments in response to perfectly legitimate questions. There's an important legal principle that says “ignorance of the law is no excuse.” That's right: you can't defend your actions by arguing you didn't know they were illegal, even if you honestly did not realise you were breaking the law.
