Thank the Lord we had that decent run before the Man City game and are virtually safe because if we had 10 points less, we’d be in big trouble with our current form

Bit like what happened with LJ's team after losing to Man C in the cup.......the only progress that's been made is trimming down the squad....I'm not even convinced of the signings we've been making....:emoticon-0105-wink: we seem to have a knack after a mini decent run of imploding

Nige has been with us 2 years now, he has maintained our status quo for that period, cut our financial costs, reduced the quantity and age of our squad, almost certainly gauranteed Championship football for season 2023/24, squad, club and fan morale has returned, all under restrictive disciplines, all that is a wonderful streak to report and you lot are still banging on about previous individuals who nearly broke us, it really is strange.

I only give him props for reducing costs. He has cut the squad too thinly of experienced professionals, and that is hurting us now. This has to be addressed in the summer. If Scott goes for £20m+, we need 5 or 6 players with that money if we are to challenge next season. At least under a previous regime, the funds were reinvested to have a go, even if we fell short, as we did. I’d rather fail having a go, than languish in the bottom half of the table selling our prize assets season after season.

I'm referring to results on the pitch and our league position.
I'm NOT referring to the size of the wages bill or the size of the squad - or comfort of the seats in the dugout, the quality of the pies and the taste of the tea - all of which may have improved under Nige.

On the pitch we are still 'streaky'

Agree, ultimately a manager and the club are judged by results, and the league position.

Oh, I get it you are not drawing comparisons with the amount of massive wasted financial backing, stratospheric wage bills, excessively long extravagant contracts, £38.4m debt legacy which is the direct cause as to why we have been only able to invest and trade at very low levels.

We are streaky at a very low level of spend and extreme restictions, when previous regimes achieved much the same with total freedom and at a higher cost that nearly broke our club, madness

No, it's about the results. A lot of those players from the days you mention are still at the club, or have been in the last 2 years. Therefore, the results and league position should be at least on par, but they are not. The rest is noise for the haters to beat the drum...

Surely you can't blame Nige for the fact we have very little money, it's all been spent, cut, to pay off the debt the club inherited, nobody is blowing smoke up anyones ass, beating drums or making noise,it's a simple fact, the truth, it's not hatred it's the reason, lack of resources and having to remedy it.

We as a club have retained our status quo and almost certainly will be in the Championship 2023/24, that will be 3 years achieved with very strict limited and reduced financial controls, the bloke ought to be congratulated not criticised and torn apart by the few critics, we are now a lot healthier and on the way to recovery.

Trying to compare like for like will be impossible to achieve, about comparison of like for like is only the word "streaky" .......... applies to both.
The baselines and financial aspects all changed with COVID this makes comparisons to the level playing field impossible whether it be as separate entities like Managers / players/ transfers/finance .. ...
Individual aspects are like marmite you like them or dont whether manager/ player/ transfer plans etc we all have a different view as opposed to an opinion.

EFL transfers ... think Webster £28m defender .. [ at a time when similar attacking / midfield players were going for Circa £40m to prem ] Now it is half that or less! Brownhill went for £9m [ basically a swap for Nahki! in terms of funds] a disasterous fee! both ways!
WE ARE WHERE WE ARE... terrible results weaaker squad lower league position financiallly much better off .. income wise and the weaker squad is less burden on the wage bill so a gain there at the expense of points on the board .and what do points do ?..... points make for prizes!

it wasn’t meant as a criticism of anyone in particular. I’m content with mid-table as I stated earlier in the season.
It’s just an observation of our pattern of results.
No doubt people will analyse them and try and find the reasons, often with a side-swipe at the previous regime, but the fact remains we go on winning streaks followed by a poor run of performances.
I’m not Nige-bashing. He’s done ok, but sometimes it’s important to say it like it is.

Perhaps the current league table should include a ‘value for money’ formula, where a macro is used to multiply up points where less money is spent and deduct them when more is spent.
We’d probably find Luton way up there at the top and last seasons teams relegated from the Prem at the very bottom.
Until then we are stuck with the old fashioned ‘3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw’ system, which pays no heed whatsoever to money spent, or earned.

Thing is, we spent money when we could (before Covid) and made money with transfers going out.....the market was buoyant up until then..
It's now changed, as with everything we've had to cut costs wages etc......most clubs have had to do the same..
Luton's a club that dropped out the league and back again, making a fist of things (playoffs position)....plenty of other clubs seem to have less budgets but get the most from the players they've got....
We at Bristol City, have not/are not managing the same.....interesting to know, why that is......even with an experienced manager in charge..Apart from slimming down the squad etc.....I don't really see the progress........avoiding relegation is a plus, but it's not progress to how we were 3-4 years ago..

    Progress or bankruptcy ?
Pays your money and takes your choice.

As for the Swansea game I've just seen the highlights.
DaSilva should never play LB. He's just too small. Realise NP short on numbers but DaSilva's performance ensures Pring will be our LB next August.
Poor old Vyner. What a ridiculous attempt of a challenge for their first goal.
I also think his positioning is wrong for their 2nd.

Another money-related post (lifted from Faeces-book so I can’t verify the accuracy of the figures)
