So what about the first statement... 'we talk all the time about NOT putting the referees under pressure and doing things the right way".

You need to give the referee a decision to make, this atitude allows the referee an easy way out of tricky decisions. I am sorry but we need to be more of a ****house team, we are too nice.

Did anyone else find the Reading commentator introducing Tufan, commenting about him wearing gloves in mild weather and then the pair of them both referring to him as “the gloved Turk” instead of using his name crass, unprofessional, and more than a bit porky?

I think he was referring to the media on that one. There's been quite big' 'respect the ref campaign' on the beeb recently.

He's not saying the players shouldn't appeal if they see something. He implied the ones Burnsy criticised for not appealing hadn't seen it at the end of his answer. He certainly didn't criticise Malcolm for appealing.

You're contriving something to criticise here.

Hasn't he brought Connolly in precisely to add a bit of that?

My mum, who doesn’t usually watch football outside of England in tournaments or City against Sheffield United and Arsenal during the FA Cup semi-final and final, finds it weird when commentators on TV refer to players by their nationality. ‘The tricky Brazilian’, ‘great pass by the Belgian midfielder’ etc. ‘The gloved Turk’ sounds a bit like that but I’ve never really considered it to be crass before. It is a bit odd though. Referring to someone by their ethnicity or nationality alone can be quite dehumanising in most situations but in football commentary it’s completely normal.

They'll be made in due course but he's not gonna be telling players they're off with 9 games left as they'll just down tools and not want to get injured etc.

It's weird when they're not internationals otherwise it can be interpreted as just shorthand for 'Turkish/Brazilian International' in context of live commentary.

Agree that its overemphasised sometimes though and wonder why.

They were using it in a negative way as a slur implying he’s a foreign softy. Just did not seem like it should have been part of a professional commentary.

We paid £2m for Allahyar, it's hardly millions. It's a pretty small fee for this level.

Allahyar created 2 great chances against Burnley, but that gets completely ignored because they weren't finished. He was playing great at the start of the season and got a long-term injury which he's only really just back from.

I was discussing implied criticism that contract decisions weren't going to be made until the end of the season.

Whether I said 9 or 8 it was on the same day so it's a bit pedantic don't you think?

Again, something every manager says and does going into an international break. Its hardly unusual.

Absolutely. I know we’ve not got a god given right to beat these teams, but they were there & 3 points for the taking. Great tempo from us from start, get first goal, but didn’t kick on. Soft defending/goal given away, then like watching paint dry. Once again, baffled by some subs, Greaves for Elder, unless he had a knock. Oscar I felt a bit sorry for, he had little service, he gets subbed then we start putting balls into the box?

Anyway, I appreciate an away point is a good point, could/should have been 3. Safe journey home to the travelling support. UTT.

I’ll say it again- we are totally boring. There’s one other team in the league who are even duller than we are- Swansea. They take possession based football to another level but we aren’t far behind. Possession based football takes responsibility off players. They’ve been hardwired to amble around and pass to the easy option. Where’s the pace, the energy, the drive? It’s not in this team and the way they play.
