One of my all time favourite City memories. I was only 9 at the time and had only started going the previous season when we first settled in England (Dad was in the Army). Thankfully, he wasn’t part of the leave early brigade and neither have I ever been, except for maybe a couple of occasions out of necessity and nothing to do with the score or performance.
I looked at the clock on 87 mins and thought of Sheff Wed, but reality sunk in. We weren't coming back from 3 down. I left on 89mins, and sure enough we didn't...
A good friend of mine is a big Burnely fan, and over the year we have usually gone to games together home and away whenever we are in the same league. He was at the game last night and said the following in a mail to me today. I thought Rosenior was trying to get Hull City playing good football. I would say that you are one of the toughest tests we have had this season but the first and third goals were avoidable and you need to sharpen up your finishing in front of the goal. Tella is something special though.
I mean it has worked in the eyes that we have significantly improved on last season. Need more than 3 or 4 to challenge play offs. 6/8 imo.
I was just going to mention this one. 4 - 1 down with about 20 minutes to go. It was the day I bought my Missus her engagement ring. We were in Prospect Centre and I kept nipping out of various jewellers to check the score. Felt such wellbeing and love for the world when I saw the final score that I basically emptied my bank account on the ring she wanted. A month later I was laid off. We put 10 past them that season as we won the home fixture 5 - 1.
Just a thought again after watching the recording I was beginning to warn to Slater lately but. At the game and watching the rerun he wax totally anonymous and off the pace - seems to mark space between players and due to lack of pace can’t make the ground up - he looked tired - which he could be ?
I can state as categorical fact I WASN'T there...My old man never took me to boxing day games as he'd meet up with an old uncle of mine and have a good drink(Both Scotsmen)... I'd be at home with cold turkey and meccano.
As @tigerrev says he was a free transfer - my codhead mates love him already, ditto the loanee from us, Andy Smith.
Right, so he's been deemed not good enough to keep, answers my question. Shame, I'd have liked to see him again at our level.
I think there’s some that don’t quite grasp that and what effect it has on the receiving players momentum. Slater is the worst for it, chalk and cheese compared to Seri who rarely weights a pass wrong.
It's a strange one - someone at the club rated him enough to take up the extra year option on him when he was sick/injured instead of letting him go when his contract ended.
I categorically wasn't there either. It was the only home match I missed that season. Boxing Day meant I was dragged to my Grandma's for cold turkey without meccano sauce.
Sometimes when it’s a medical issue a player is recovering from, the club will give them extra contract, it happened with the CB we had a few years ago with cancer. Obviously whatever Emmanuel had, he didn’t wish it to be disclosed, but it probably makes the club look better if anything ever came out, plus it was only for half a season with him now at Grimsby.
3 goals in 4 minutes. There is more chance of me finding my first turd than the current City repeating that feat. Lol
