i agree 100% with the need to sit down and wholesale change bits...tbh I was having an envious sideswipe at Burnley. A small town club. I worked with a Burnley fan for a few years, and even he admitted they were punching well above their weight...Good luck to em. They've defied the odds for a few decades.
I think you are about spot on there .... provided that we can get & keep players like Tetteh, Oscar, Connolly, Allahyar, Christie, Seri, fit & available for the vast majority of the season. Unfortunately that seems to be a really big IF atm. Another Christie type on the left, a new 'Ash' in the middle, and a winger like we'd hope Ebiowei would be, with our key players (especially the strikers) being fit would make a massive difference to us. Simple as that. Of course, that assumes we keep Connolly, and don't lose any of our better players. It would be nice to think we could 'just' make those 3 or 4 big, key signings, without the need then for wholesale changes yet again (as Ric also posted), and also continue to see a steady flow of quality youngsters coming through into the squad, which seems a real possibility even just thinking of the likes of Simons, Covil, Vaughan, Simms, never mind any younger gems coming up from the academy.
I thought at times we did ok, final ball let us down. Not sure if LR thinks he’s pep and we are Man City but as much as I do t think Oscar is that good I’d rather have him on the pitch than no striker at all. I’m yet by I see the hype around pelkas although I think I midfield weigh seri and traore has the makings of a good one
They don’t need to be anything special compared to pl teams as they are a championship team. As championship goes they are special
Great goal from Tufan , half our fans didn't see it though Do people have to get to bed extra early on a Wednesday ?
Burnley are quite special this year. They’ve got every area spot on both on and off the pitch. They play out from the back and are a possession-based team but do it with far more purpose than we do. How many times did someone play a ball to Allahyar that was behind him, meaning he had to turn inside to receive it? Compare that with how Burnley played balls to Tella and Zaroury.
On the 26th December 1970 City were 4-1 down to Sheffield Wednesday, with 7 minutes remaining, fans were streaming out of the ground. City scored 3 goals in 4 minutes (Chilton 2, Wagstaff) to draw level and then hit the bar. I was stood behind the North stand goal were they were scored. Being Boxing Day, my neighbour (in Victoria Ave.) had left without seeing the City comeback and refused to believe it until he saw it in the paper (a couple of days later). Leave early?????????? You must be joking! https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/spo...story-hull-city-v-sheffield-wednesday-1797925
We're a work in progress, and heading generally in the right direction. On the basis Rosie has more than influence on any transfer activity come The Summer I would expect us to push on. I'd also like us to be more streetwise, nothing wrong with 'stopping' the opposition outside the laws of the game, in the right areas it tends to lead to nothing or a yellow card at worst.
We 100% need a target man even if we sign Connelly. Oscar as scored goals but isn't one. The three we had up front last night are definitely not. Tetteh is and allows players to play off him. However to be challenging next season you need more than one. We obviously need to strengthen in other areas as well but for me having that hold up player up front brings the more skilful players into play in the better areas.I thought we really missed that type of player last night.
I think recently we have varied a bit more between passing it around at the back and playing it up to the big man. However last night we more or less passed the short ball out constantly inviting the high press. I thought we did well for the first 25 minutes however they knew that's all we were going to do. They had the high press forced us into mistakes and we started giving the ball away. We were not really big enough to play it long and relied on pace. It would have been interesting if Connelly and Tetteh had played but this is were getting the right balance in a squad is needed. I thought Ebiowei had the beating of their Fullback and Traore looked very promising.
I remember this game dearly, You are right never leave a game early because of it. Shame is it has never happened again. I can't think of another game in the in the intervening 53years (bloody hell how long!). Guess it is what is meant by the exception that proves the rule. We don't come back from being 3 behind in the last ten minutes. But its left the belief it will happen again. One day
I was there in 1970 and as you say I don't think we've replicated it since. The nearest I can recall is the Stuart Green inspired comeback against MK Dons where I think a potential 1-2 defeat became a 3-2 victory in added time.
Always a good watch when they go a goal down. A pity the negative, boring defensive masterclass of almost every first half ruins things. More courage needed, less back passing. Someone needs to tell the manager the best thing to do when they get a free kick is boot the ball forward, not pass it back into your own half and start again. What happened to taking a risk, entertaining football? If they bring out a season pass next season for the second half only it will be worth buying.
We beat QPR in the 06/07 Championship season 3-2 after being behind 2-1 going into injury time. Stuart Elliott came on and got them both, was a brilliant feeling that and obviously helped us stay up leading us in a position to get promoted the year after!
I can, Torquay at home in the mid 90's. We were three nil up with about five minutes left on the clock and they scored three goals to draw level at 3-3. It surpised me because on the night before the game the Torquay players were staying at one of the hotels in Willerby were a Sportsmens Dinner, fund raiser for City was being held at which I was attending and some of the Torquay players were in the bar at 1.00am still drinking.
What gets me is when we get a throw in well into the opponents half. One throw and 2 touches later it's back with our keeper ... time & again. We then try to rebuild to eventually, if we're lucky, move the ball back to .... err .... into the opponents half, somewhere level with where the throw was taken from. I just don't get it. Surely the original throw in represents an attacking position / opportunity from which we should be looking forward? As said, it happens time & again.
He's there to get game time, without needing to move house, before looking for a move to a bigger club in the summer.
