My twopenneth for what it’s worth. I’m not too disappointed, I didn’t expect to get anything out of this one, hoping for a point, in short, simply beaten by the better side on the night and guilty of sitting back too deep, no press. A huge positive was that we were still in the game to close to half time, frustrating their first goal came after a foul on our player. Even after that, 2nd half at 1 nil we were still in the game, had a few chances to make it 1-1, same old, lack of quality in final third, couldn’t convert chances. Second half, for large periods we held our own, had chances, just lacking final ball. Like others, I was baffled with the sub of Doc for Coyle. Greaves was chomping at the bit to come on, got stripped, had a word with Liam, but was stood down. Wonder if something is amiss here behind scenes? Sod’s law, when he does get on, early mistake leading to another goal. Thought Pelkas was ineffective up front on his own, didn’t work. Longman really lively & productive when he came on, driving forward, good crosses into box. All in all, not too disappointed, bad day at the office, one to chalk off and move on. UTT.
I think people are forgetting how good and sharp Pelkas looked when he first came in to the side. He’s struggled since with unfortunate niggling injuries and never getting a chance to play in his actual position in the #10 role with decent players around him. He definitely has a lot more to offer in a better equipped team and if the wage can be reasonable would 100% be worth taking him on the free at the end of the season.
What's the score with Emmanuel? Is he on loan at Grimsby or was he sold? Just wondering if he might improve our stock in the rb,rwb area.
Just watched the match on recording Elder was a bit weak but for the 2d where were our other defenders? ANd why do we make Oscar run from defender to defender on his own wasting energy if nobody backs him up . He may as well sit deeper and squeeze the middle space ?
Pelkas is a big no from me. He looked ok to start with, the fact we are struggling to find his position, and like most of our signings he won’t play more than 20/25 games in a year anyway.
We aren’t struggling to find his position, he’s just not been given the chance to play in it until last night, except with no striker ahead of him which is mental. He had a poor game but every player does from time to time, and he’s clearly a way off being at his best and so are the players around him.
A free hit and we gave it a go. They’ve beaten better sides then us all season. We already know what needs improving. Time to move on. Allam’s GONE.
Not starting Oscar was probably a tactical thing about wanting a certain type of player to try and hurt Burnley. And to be fair it worked at times, we got in behind them and into some good positions. Rosenior has talked about Oscar's energy levels being off recently so that may also have played a part. He'll be back in soon, probably Saturday. Pelkas is a funny one. I believe he has a lot of ability because Rosenior has said it several times, but I don't think it's as obvious as it is with Traore for example, and I'm not convinced we've had much to show from his loan spell when you look back. He's scored a couple of relatively simple finishes, and I don't remember him ever creating much. I'd be happy to keep him if that's what we decide but we have a lot of these talented #10s who haven't achieved much and I could understand if we decided not to bother signing him permanently.
Was that an end of season performance by us? Or were we just not at it? As for Burnley they're okay.. Nothing special. Not sure how they will fair in the premier league if many of their better players leave. As for us, next season I think we'll need about four inbound good'uns to even make a good fist of a challenge for the play-offs. Considering that the likes of Southampton, Leeds etc..will be favourites to go straight back up. A new right back, two centre mids, and a Ashley Barnes type of target man.
They're thirteen points clear at the top of the league having only lost two games all season, of course they're something special, they're the best team in the league by some distance.
I think B&S is thinking about more than just this season He'll be comparing them to other teams in other seasons as well
Fair enough...Nothing special in the grand scheme of things when compared to the premier league....Like a West Brom in some respects, but with the ability to finish their dominance. Just shows you that keeping the nucleus of the premier league squad and adding a few 'up and comers' can work. I can't see them keeping some of their better 'on loan' players, but eh what do I know?
Tony Pulis told Cyrus Christie he was too small to play full back, he is 6'2"!, I knew Pulis liked big teams but that is staggering.
Pure and simple...Burnley,we're not on the same planet as them, neither is anyone else in the division.Of course they'll need to spend money to strengthen but the pot of gold takes care of that.As an addition to that,we really shouldn't be concerning ourselves with them going forward and I'm surprised others have commented similar...I wish them well, they deserve promotion but we're the issue here. You've touched on it,we need some shrewd recruitment,we're lightweight and unless we beef up in several areas we'll remain so.The owner must now sit down with Rosenior, see what he requires in terms of a war chest and identify 3 or 4 decent targets. This will cost money and hopefully it will be made available? I just hope that the wholesale change approach isn't repeated because it really hasn't worked this season.
We’ve got the perfect right back in Christie, what we really need is a similar dynamic left back, and an absolute beast in the middle of the park to sit deep, snap enemies in half and win all the aerial ping pong, and another pacey, trickey winger along the lines of Ebiowei. With just those 3 signings, the first 2 in particular, the whole side all of a sudden becomes instantly more balanced and well rounded and I think you then start to see much improved performances from everyone being able to do their thing.
I thought we played ok last night - Burnley are a good side, by far the best in the Championship and with more clinical finishing / or better decision making we could easily have scored a few goals - the Pelkas header - the Ebiowei header or non header - the Eboiwei dribble where he should have passed but shot - the Tufan shot which could have been harder - we still need a good quality striker though because Oscar is inconsistent and Tetteh is becoming a sick note - I think we have two good centre backs but neither Greaves or Elder are quick enough at left back to deal with a quick winger - Rosie has made us much tighter - we're not far away from being a decent Championship side
