Thought first 25 we played the ball about well but then started to give the ball away to easy. Second we created some changes but when they got theirs they were more clinical. I think Allahyar would have been better down the middle and Pelkas wide in the first half because Allahyar is more physical. I was impressed with Traore. I think tonight gives you an idea of how clinical you have to be when given a chance which is what it’s all about to win games.
Well Rosie made a couple of errors- Burnley must have the smallest back four I’ve seen - so we play Pelkas as centre forward - he got no ball to feet it was all half chances - Oscar should have been in Elder can’t play our well enough especially when Allyhar is 30 yds up the wing from him and doesn’t cover well - also where was Slater as the inside man when playing out , I have to finally admit if we want to be like them , Coyle , Elder and Doch do not have the touch and control for us to be at the top of this table- it’s harsh but true . They get away with it in mid table and below that’s all . Ebiowei really has some skills would really like him for some time , Traore was good but flagging . In hindsight Greaves regardless of his back pass , at full back will keep the ball better and that’s what you need playing out
Thought we played well overall just a lack of quality at the front end. Also thought we started better than in recent games and noticed they had to change their shape to press us higher up in the latter stages of the first half. We showed flashes and could have made a game of it had we got one earlier. Traore is clearly a player and Ebiowei has really good streaks in him just need to iron out the bad or at least accommodate for it We lost similar scorelines to Luton, Boro and Stoke earlier in the season and looked dross. I dont think the performance was that of a 3-1 loss really
The defensive side of Burnley's game today was so good, their press is outstanding and they never really gave us a moment. The clinical nature of their finishing too was simply too good for this level
They won't be able to press that aggressively either unless they sign some top-quality defenders. We had some success playing through it and when we did, they were wide open. I'm looking forward to see how they invest in the summer though, they did a terrific job this year
While being clearly the 2nd best team in the match, we could have had something out of it with a bit of luck and better finishing. Pelkas was dog **** in that position and was a clear swap with Oscar at half-time. Still surprised it happened. When Oscar came on, it was great to see him constantly playing high up just behind the defenders. For once he didn't need to track back. Unlucky to lose Coyle, but we need more cover with Christie out. Doc was no replacement. Ebouiwe was like a different player. I was embarassed by how **** our support is though. When their 3rd goal went in so many people left and by 80 minutes, several thousand must have gone. I know its a weekday but if you leave that early you are a total **** who probably only started coming when we were in the Premier League. If we had been playing, say, Man Utd, I bet they wouldn't have left. ****ers. Enjoyable match. Lots of positives, should have done better but outclassed by a Premier League team, pretty much.
I know Rosie wants us to play a similar way to Burnley, however our front 3 are miles off it. Their press was insane compared to our 3 players just standing in a diamond. Rosie wants to play this way, I suggest we find a front four that can run all day, a crasher in midfield and two full backs who are comfortable with the ball. Adama looked good if nowt else.
What's this about Pelkas playing as a striker? We didnt have a striker in the first half We had an attacking midfield 4! Why we didnt start with Oscar I'll never know
Whilst I agree. A lot of the team will be here to continue to play this style and given we are safe I'd rather get those respective players used to playing this system
It feels like this has been the case for about 10 years. No matter how many quality players we have on the pitch, that final ball never seems to be reliable. I don't actually know much about Burnley's team; are they really of a greater pedigree than the midfield and attack we started today? Should be loads of quality there on paper but every ball in from a good position was just not quite right. They got one chance to put a similar ball in and he made it almost impossible for the striker to miss.
Difficult win in every way' - reaction Burnley manager Vincent Kompany told BBC Radio Lancashire: "I thought it was a difficult game in every way. "We had to adapt a lot of times to many things and it wasn't a case of total and complete dominance like we've had in the last few games. "It was certainly a game in which we had very good chances but we had to fight hard for the result today. "In the end I know how important it is to come back with a win, three points and three goals." Hull City boss Liam Rosenior: "Burnley are the benchmark for us. They are one of the best teams I've seen at this level in the last 10 years, if not the best. "That is a team that play football the right way. That's the level I definitely want to aspire to for this club. "They have a player in Nathan Tella who is outstanding - three shots and three goals - but we'll get better for this game. "We'll make mistakes, but I'm hoping the fans see what we are trying to do."
Vitinho for example today. He never stopped running, he knew his role exactly where to be and exactly when to press.
The atmosphere was really poor tonight too, absolutely lifeless from the start. Sometimes it just seems like we're really not up for it, usually night games. Don't know why. Dead rubber feel to the season maybe? I bang on about it a lot but we have a job to do in influencing the ref. Some teams get all the decisions at home because their crowd never stops moaning and makes it a hassle to give things against them. We're so meek though. The first goal tonight looked like a foul in real time, but there wasn't any sort of appeal. Refs usually love to give a foul in situations like that where an attacker gets free because of the contact with the defender taking him out. We should be putting the pressure on every time, it's worth a few points a season.
The atmosphere was poor because everybody’s gone to sleep watching City take half an hour to pass the ball out of their own half.
We have terrible game management at the moment. Did you see when Burnley wanted to take heat out the game at our free kick nearly 4 of their players would touch the ball just to slow the game down. We had two times we had 10 men on the pitch and still played it short to our centre halves to subsequently spanner it out of play or give it away in our final third. Crazy.
