Five wins in five,14 goals scored, none concede!! That's more like it!! We've got Super Keiran McKenna
If I was a Plymouth fan, I would be very worried now, it will effect the players too, and the whole club. Breathing down their necks. Spanish's 5 golden doubloons, lets keep this going.
Plymouth have been there before also, so will have to be weighing heavy on them. The only thing I would say is we've been on an amazing run of form and its still out of our hands. Law of averages say that no matter how good we've been we'll do well to maintain this form especially as we're moving into a more challenging bunch of fixtures. We've also not had a team sit deep against us in that run which was where we were really struggling before. But a little while ago it looked like we were going to be overtaken by those below us, now bar Barnsley that looks very unlikely.
We have some tough games ahead, but on present form, no-one can beat us. Plymouth on paper have an easier run-in, but several awkward away games. If we win 8, draw 1 and lose 1 in next 10 games, I believe we will be in top 2. Barnsley might well be our only rivals come end April. We need to put a marker down and get a result at theirs.
I got a FFS for my ‘hang on a sec lads’ on the other thread. The fact is that if Plymouth win the next two and we lose against Barnsley and it’s a five point gap with Barnsley ahead of us then our situation going into April is a lot more challenging. We can expect close to full points for all three sides after that going into the final games in April and May so making up five points will be a tall order. But if we can win the next three then I think we’ll be in pole position and see it over the line. If we had found this way of playing - getting the ball in faster - in December, we’d be top and no one would be catching us. But we are up against fine margins with very few games left. Before this five game streak, making the play offs at all was in question. And now that’s in no doubt at all, so we only have sights on second and mentally we have an edge on Plymouth. They will buckle if we win the next three. It’s probably a three horse race for second now and I think it’ll come down to us or Barnsley on the result of that match. So the five wins is great. But autos is all on the results of the next three games and even more importantly, beating Barnsley. They are buzzing too.
Just look what happens when you buy your own players and don’t loan half the first team! Look what happens as soon as Marcus Evans is out of the picture.
…..and appoint a decent, modern coach with good supporting staff who work to a progressive plan and are prepared to put in the hard graft to improve the players in their squad.
Just had a look at the Plymouth board and 1 or 2 of them starting to get a bit edgy, we have a winnable game on Saturday so hopefully 3 points and thats all we can do, what happens elsewhere is out of our control so no point in worrying about it. Lets face it whatever the end of the season brings theres one thing we have won and that is that our Club has come back to life again, the fans are buzzing, the stands are rocking, and our gates are second only to Derby Counties, away match tickets are selling out and the noise from our fans is fantastic, good days.
I couldn’t be happier and more proud. We are doing all the right things - I can’t pick at anything at all in the last few weeks - and more often than not when you do the right things your reward comes at the end of it. Derby, by the way, don’t have to put in the miles our fans do!
Don't know how I missed this interview a month or so ago but it makes very interesting viewing given the great run we are presently on. KMc's attention to detail and way he is constantly seeking improvements is very encouraging as is Ashton's role and the overall support from the owners.
The main difference now is moving the ball at pace, more direct simpler moves, and capitalising on our dominance. And look how those new players have been integrated! Great interview strong support from MA and owners.
It's so good it's hard to believe it will continue. For me psychologically it will be a big test for us when we go behind in a game as the last time that happened was so long ago it will be like a new experience
Tbh ptc, i think our confidence is so high, it wouldn't bother them, they would just step it up and pummel the other side!!
Yeah I agree. I don’t even think losing a game would derail us now that we have a tiny bit of breathing room. The way McKenna has gone about it all is to focus on what we do and our performance in the knowledge that if we keep doing it we’ll get rewards. Peterborough is going to be a real test and we will do well to come away with a clean sheet there, but there’s no reason it should affect the momentum if we let a goal in. I’d love to have promotion sealed by the time we play Barnsley and have the last two games about the title.
Confidence and team & Club spirit are sky high. There will be the odd draw but top 2 is there for us to play for now. Sheffield are losing points every game and their morale is taking a battering.
I think if we’ve a challenge it’s the effectively four point gap to Barnsley should they beat us. If we fail to win a couple and they win that’s where we could come unstuck. I think Wednesday have had it and will be relying on their key players to come back in time for the play offs.
Just how crucial has this fantastic run been?!Even with it we are only a point (and vastly superior goal difference) ahead of Wednesday.
