Wouldn't it be nice is Rishi Sunak could drop Suella Braverman or Therese Coffey from a great height like he just did with the BBC?

As if the BBC haven't taken enough of a deserved kicking over the last couple of days, now their news coverage is getting an Elon Box

...which isn't showing up on here, FFS

Oh look, another example of the BBC standing by a freelancer regardless of what they post on social media...

Anybody else getting a whiff of classism to this? As in nice Middle Class people watch Springwatch and can separate the programme and the presenter - but the proles watch MOTD, and they're too thick to tell them apart

That is your opinion, mine is, the Tories are destroying another public institution, the do not like the licence fee and do not like its position, over the last 12 years the BBC has gone from the place where the public would go for an un biased report on the situation
Now it has been infiltrated by Tory stooges and as per the usual Tories tactic run down and demonised to the point that the public will not care what happens to it and it will become another government mouthpiece

I would hope that we aspire to better behaviour than wild animals. My point on what would happen with a World Government is that they would set the rules on movement and would have no reason to place restrictions on it any more than the UK Government does between England and Scotland. For all sorts of reasons having a World Government would be a good thing but we don't have one now so that's why nation states can take unilateral actions.
One of the weirdest things about immigration controls is that they are usually supported by right wing parties who theoretically support market forces. But free movement of people is actually necessary to optimise market behaviour.
It is also one of the best ways to prevent poverty as poor people can move to richer countries and send wealth back to their wider families.
That in itself will reduce population growth as population increases faster in poorer places.
We are nowhere near the limit for a sustainable population though.

Everyone in politics and in the outside world agrees that domestic violence is completely unacceptable.

A woman on question time says that the ex PMs father is a wife beater and the host says "it was a one off".

    No fuss has been made.

Karen Brady, Co owner of West Ham and Tory member of the House of Lords writes regular for the Sun (a Tory paper) giving her political views and is regularly on BBC.

Alan Sugar regularly give his political opinions as he lays into strikes, unions, Corbyn etc and is regularly on on the BBC.

    I could go on tbh.

Either be consistent and ban them all or STFU and let everyone have an opinion.

Lineker has the same right to give an opinion as anyone else. What he wrote was not hateful, it was not abusive so its irrelevant whether I or anyone else agrees or disagrees with what's being said.

The BBC has been accused of left wing biase for decades. Whether that was true or not is kind of irrelevant as it is clearly being run by people with right leanings and this can be seen with the likes of Question Time imo.

The head of the BBC is currently being investigated for helping the ex Tory PM to get a £4m loan, yet that gets less coverage than Lineker expressing his view.

Final point... the right wing constantly complain of a "cancel culture" that is "killing democracy and free speech" yet everytime someone disagrees with a right wing policy that do the exact same thing.
    Hypocrites.

Tribal - not wild animals. We are still immensely tribal - not only in countries but football teams and anything remotely competitive - it is in our nature and there is nothing fundamentally wrong with that.
A world government is so far from reality that it is impossible to consider what it might do.
A lot of working class people are also anti-immigration when they consider it a threat to their jobs or way of life. Immigration cuts across all political boundaries but if you had to try to identify a "side" you might consider people with "liberal" values would be more open to it.
I think the amount of migration is worldwide quite small so has negligible effect on either world poverty or population.
That though is the nub of it - how much migration is beneficial and how much becomes a problem. In the UK we seem to have no idea and no plan and no concept of what a sensible immigration policy or behaviour should be. Brexit and immigration concerns have largely been driven by ignorant and self-centred people -in my opinion at least. If we actually had a government instead of a shower and an opposition instead of a drizzle we might expect the major parties to work out what is good for all sides - but we don't and I see little signs of it coming about.

The BBC has been slowly destroying itself for decades,
long before the current Tory reign began.

And that destruction is driven solely by the hubris
that being taxpayer funded allows (or what I term
'gobsh*te privilige' ) . Not once have I seen them
present vaguely credible proposals for the future.
financial, nor in the context of tech advances (CAS etc) .

The BBC are recently losing revenue because their basic
content per annum is not cumulatively good enough
to keep eyes on their screen and not the likes of Netflix.

That is being compounded by similar losses due to
their perceived political bias, whether tis the
situation in Scotland mentioned by Spurf, or the general
sneering contempt shown for the socio-political
mood of the man in the street (via their "comedy" output
or lecturing in drama - Dr Who etc) .

So my general advice in life would be :

If you don't want to be shot dead, stop putting
bullets in the gun held by a person who has made
it clear they intend to kill you.

There should be no argument about the right wing bias of the BBC it is self evident. The BBC always supports the British goverment line in wars. It supported the British in the war, and it was war, with Ireland. Nobody questions that. It clearly supports the status quo and that is the establishment. It 'conserves' British institutions all of that activity by it's very nature is conservative activity and that is right wing.
There are some excellent left wing presenters on the BBC ( I am talking radio, I don't watch BBC television) people like Michael Rosen and Laurie Taylor, and they present great programmes. The BBC bias comes in it's news presentations and programmes like PM.
