Prior to Qatar's World Cup hosting there were numerous discussions and interviews on the BBC about the country's history of human rights, the deaths of workers on the stadia for the tournament and lots of other things. Gary Lineker sat in front of cameras doing his BBC job and made comments about Qatar and its controversies. And that was OK with the BBC. However, when Gary commented on the UK govt he crossed a line. Two faced b*stards.
Last week the right wing were banging the drum for free speech, but as soon as they are taken to task the right wing cancel culture kicks in.
Disagreeing with the policy is acceptable to me. Its an iffy policy. Loosely comparing the government to nazis? Silly thing to do. People have been sacked or had to resign for less over social media comments. Should he be sacked? No. Am I surprised that he's been suspended? In todays easily offended climate? No.
Gazza has heard about his pal Gary's troubles, and turned up at his house with a fishing rod and some potato crisps
Why are all these other people involved in footy broadcasting striking? What are they supporting exactly? World is going mad quickly IMO. Get on with the jobs you are paid to do lads and lasses and let the best paid of you fight his own battle. He can afford to not work for the beeb, not so sure about all of you. Lineker can take Stelling's seat at the end of the season, the rest of you not so sure. Plenty will take your roles...
M Fantastic , let’s get back to rushing to the paper shop at 5:00 to get first in queue for the football pink !
So, to summarise, "this group of people I've identified are the enemy of all of us" I think I've heard that before somewhere.
It's creating a right ****storm. If the folk supporting Lineker have their wish and he was immediately returned to MOTD then you'll have the likes of Piers Morgan waiting in the wings to up the ante with their pish. Every racist, homophobic and dangerous comment will be filed under freedom of speech. Lineker agreed not to go political while being front and centre for the BBC. He broke that agreement. Imagine any other industry where you could all decide not to bother doing your work because your pal got himself in trouble? It's beyond pathetic and so are the excuses about supporting his freedom of speech. They support his views and the general public are paying for it with their viewing entertainment. If Lineker's next tweet suggested we could stop the influx of boats on our shores by blowing them out the water, I dont think his mates would be so quick to support his right to free speech, at that point.
Free speech I'd imagine ... ... something that makes Britain better than other countries, or so I was told.
Would not mind Laura Woods taking the job on. Be great if they could poach Ally Mcoist and Micah Richard to team up with her. Well woke.
I hate the expression 'badly reading the room' but this seems to be a good example ... ... I can't abide Lineker, record MOTD and skip the talk. But a TV company believing they can control an employer's personal life is just wrong. My boss's son is at Newcastle Uni and claims to support the Mags ... ... I say the same things to him as I post on here. It's not a dictatorship either here or in Lineker's world.
