Good Morning. It's Friday 10th March, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

    Who spends £35m on potential

When Georginio Rutter arrived at Elland Road in January, fans were full of expectation. The club had just shelled out a club record £35m, so the guy must be good - right? Fast forward the clock eight weeks, and not only has he failed to register in front of goal, but he has the lowest passing success rate in the entire squad with 41% according to stats from 'Whoscored'.

It's not as if he was setting the World alight with Hoffenheim. Prior to arriving in West Yorkshire (kicking and screaming), the 20 year old had scored twice this season (1010 minutes of game time), and that's from an inferior league. I'm not saying Rutter won't come good, but who in their right minds spends £35m on potential?

    Touch and go for Bamford

During his pre-match presser, Leeds interim boss Javi Gracia revealed that Patrick Bamford could return to the starting line up tomorrow, for the visit of Brighton. The 29yo has endured a torrid 24 months of bad form and injury, and has a lot to prove to the Elland Road faithful.

With only one goal in the last five matches, (courtesy of a blunder from Saints shot-stopper Gavin Bazunu), confidence must be low. Leeds must rediscover their goal-scoring touch, if they have any hopes of staying up; but with Rodrigo sidelined for another three or four weeks, the responsibility lies with Bamford, as the more experienced and senior statesman of the side to fire Leeds to safety.

    Would you take a point

High flying Brighton are the visitors to Elland Road, which if Leeds lose, could see them drop into the bottom three by tea time tomorrow. The form guide is well and truly in favour of the Seagulls, with Leeds returning to the foot of the (form guide) table following their 1-0 loss at Stamford Bridge last weekend.

Do Leeds have what it takes to grind out a win, or given the option, would you settle for a point? Time is running out, and Leeds need to get to 36 points, or thereabouts!

I think we're good enough to stay up but the players are just mentally broken at the moment.

If we don't sign a potential superstar when they're a teenager then we never will and Rutter has all the talent to become one. Just let the lad develop and finish his growing before we even start to whine about this signing.

Seems some would have preferred to have signed a journeyman striker for the here and now, who incidentially would have come with no guarantees of hitting the back of the net any more than Bamford, Rodrigo or Rutter.

    Morning all by the way.

We were going to spend the 35k on CDK who’s struggled at Milan… then gakpo and eventually rutter

It’s an investment pot… they were all forwards with potentially a big upside… with gakpo a little older and further in his progression.

    25m gets you Chris wood

So the idea is buy young, they should be good enough to make an impact, improve over 2-3 years become stars and get sold for sizeable profit.

Of course it doesn’t always work like that, you have to pick very well, and the younger you buy the higher the risk, hence why you usually pay less. I don’t know the terms of the deal but I doubt the base price was 35.. it was rumoured to be 25. Still a lot of money if he doesn’t deliver but same money as dan James.

This isn’t hindsight, it was obvious that this money was part of the investment strategy… no doubt sold to the 49ers as part of the overall business growth strategy. My issue at the time was not that we’d signed him… Jury is still out as it’s way too early to call on him… it was that in our predicament we could have used the money on the here and now… not a prospect.

35k on CDK seems quite reasonable!

Maybe the players should take some of the heat, it's not as if they haven't had some practice after last year's pot boiler eh.... perhaps some supporters are not as fireproof as others ;)

All calm and tranquil here at Jammy Towers.

Season Tickets renewed and all buckled up for a what should be white knuckle ride to the finish.

Players are fine because in truth, if relegated, they just move onto their next ridiculously overpaid job. Fans however will still be around regardless what division were in. And the fans don't get paid, they pay for the ridiculous wages. So I can personally see why fans might panic more

    Morning all

Not only has Rutter the price tag and homesick move to contend with, he has Leeds fans expecting him to keep us up and the blame starting to be pointed at his transfer.

We need Rodrigo back and Rutter on the bench, Rutter coming on when we’re hopefully in the lead and no pressure on his shoulders.

Sinisterra might prove to be a far greater waste of money if we can’t keep him out the sick note room

You're saying take the lead, then bring on a player with a 40% pass rate?

Don't read back the match day threads. The players get slaughtered from the first mistake onwards. I try to stay off it for those 90 mins.:(.
