In the past 13 seasons, we've played them seven times, won four, drawn two and lost one. Of course, we've spent a number of those years in different divisions, but I've always had the impression we play them a lot more often than that. That said, this season they are doing well, with Ismaïla Sarr and João Pedro both on 9 goals, they sit 9th, just 4 points away from a playoff position. They've won one, lost one, and drawn three of their last five games...a run that includes a 3-2 win against West Brom and an away draw with league leaders, Burnley. As for us, Ainsworth will be desperate to get some points on the board, having now managed two, and lost two, 1-3 against Blackburn followed by 3-1 against Rotherham. That makes it three 3-1 loses in a row, and five straight losses in a row. Having not won since December 17th, we now sit 20th, and are fortunate to be 7 points above the drop zone. Roberts doing up his laces whilst the opposition are attacking pretty much summed it up against Rotherham. A fair few of our players don't look like they can be bothered any more, and who knows what Ainsworth had planned for this week to turn the tide. The Haka clearly didn't work. A glance at the article titles on the news page of our website, and the emphasis is clearly on younger players, the under 21's, and players who are out on loan. Perhaps a not so subtle message from the club that there is no money to be spent, so we need to focus on what we have, and who we have coming through. All looking rather bleak from where I am sitting. Team News QPR: Chris Willock, Ethan Laird, Ilias Chair, Jake Clarke-Salter, Tyler Roberts and Leon Balogun will miss out. Sinclair Armstrong may return. Watford: Francisco Sierralta, Hassane Kamara, Edo Kayembe, Tom Cleverley and Dan Gosling are all absent. Pre-match Talk Gareth Ainsworth (QPR head coach): “We know the importance of the games coming up, Watford is always a tough test. We were all prepped to face a Slaven Bilic team, but now Chris Wilder is in charge and we have to be adaptable. “I’ve had many battles with Chris over the years. He’s a fantastic manager who has proved it in the Premier League, and I’m sure it will be another battle on Saturday.” Chris Wilder (Watford head coach): “If we can get out of the traps quickly that’ll be great. I believe we’re taking about 3,000 supporters and they’ll be expecting a performance just as much as I will. “We have to go into it positive, win games and have the right attitude. That’s not impossible as we have the experience. We certainly have the talent.” ...COME ON YOU SUPER HOOPSA!!! Please at least look like you are putting in 100%.
I can’t see any of the sicknotes fancying this one nor a midweek trip to Blackpool. Sorry it’s zero points for me.
Obviously they will get the elusive (for us) ‘new manager bounce’. If only because, judging by his shape, Wilder can bounce very high indeed.
Is anyone even remotely shocked ? In my eyes one of the worst loan deals in our history ! I firmly believe he is utter turd, with a diabolical attitude. Of course that doesn't mean he'll end up at Stoke and score 32 goals next season and fire them up !
Dave, I think you've already cursed this game by merely suggesting our record against the hornets is pretty decent. You just know how gifting we are at the moment.
stacey loves all this talk about going down but she wont hear any talk about relegation please log in to view this image
How much resistance we put up on this one, will give us a clue whether it will be a relegation battle ahead, or a relegation surrender
Wilder (who we should have done everything to have brought in) will be licking his lips at this one. We’re on the ropes and this will be a knockout.
I agree Wilder would have been great, and yes IF we could have got him we should. However Managers stock is similar to players. In player terms Wilder is Upper Championship/Lower Premier League (Think Wayne Routledge for his entire career). He's had a few years success in each League, after his last Management position he now needs to be successful. I'm really not sure however much we offered Wilder he'd have said yes. We're not attracting upper Championship players, how would we attract that ilk manager (taking over from a previous 8% win rate). Watford is as basketcase as us, but the Owners are playing the system well, bringing in top money loan players from Italy and paying a decent lump in wages. Wilder will be there less than an a year, he'll win more than he loses, possibly get promotion then move on with a nice bit if money. There's no shame in a manager parting company with Watford, its what they do. He will not be buying a house in Hertfordshire. We currently do not sign Premier League players nor upper Championship players. We sign players from lower leagues and take a gamble, some work, most end up at Charlton. I'm not saying we shouldn't be attracting Upper Championship players, we should, but for many reasons we don't and without them we will not attract the Wilders. We will get first time managers and lower league managers looking to step up. Its not a healthy position and many would agree it's not where we should be, but there are many fundamental fixes required before the likes of Wilder even consider gambling there reputation on us.
Wilder was very expensive..and not as successful as his demands imply and wants money for players. Ainsworth cares too. For the long term we made the right choice, but maybe not for Saturday Btw... Dykes is back in squad
What’s ‘long term’ in the context of QPR? Six months? If Ainsworth hasn’t had an impact in the next couple of games I doubt he will make any difference to this mob. Dykes back? Wow, very surprising.
