Salah is one of those that will get under appreciated while he's with us but will go up in stature when we look back at him. I personally rank him above Suarez, Torres etc. - Goal/assists speaks for itself (Top prem scorer, top scorer in Europe) - Consistently turns up in the big games - Model professional - Signed a contract when maybe could have gone on like other plays have - Never injured, rarely needs resting I just hope he is still in Klopps plan for the next couple of years and is apart of the rebuild, we got a glimpse of the Salah/Gakpo/Nunez potential yesterday but it'll be interesting to see what the preference will be when Diaz is back fit.
But it's about more than that. Suarez made the whole team play better and look fantastic. When Studge was scoring goals it wasn't because Suarez was providing all the assists... (He was stretching the opposition and drawing multiple people onto himself). I honestly don't recall Suarez's assist numbers but I didn't mean he made Studge look good because he gave him assists. And it didn't matter who was playing with Suarez, they all looked world class when Suarez was on the team. Teenage Sterling as Gerrez pointed out... Gerrard was never better than when he had Suarez on the team, etc. When Suarez was out the whole team was worse. When Salah is out. We miss Salah but the rest of the team is the same.
Usually the opposite happens, players are over hyped while they're with us and lose lister as time goes by. I remember people buttering up Jonjo Shelvey. Sterling was the next Messi. I'm not saying Salah is over hyped. I do believe that for a season at least, he was the best in the world... Just saying people tend to think of the current as "the best" or "the worst". Human exceptionalism to believe what they are currently experiencing is extra unusual. Almost no one ranks Torres as best every anymore.
he was clearly better with torres and in his prime in 2004 to 2009 or so. Gerrard was spent force in terms of box to box by the time suarez came. his adaption to deep lying slippy g playmaker role was just down to quality and nous how to get the job done. prime Gerrard was best midfielder we ever had bar none. as I said. suarez? give me Dalglish all day. would love to see a Dalglish false 9 under klopp with runners going. it'd be unstoppable.
Best way to think about this put your best ever team together using the klopp system Gerrard is rcm 1000% Dalglish false 9. salah could be rw. could suarez be lw? my hero is Barnes. souness no 6 lcm? huge choices available.
for me the Suarez / Dalglish comparison is not like for like at least in terms of the majority of Kennys time with us .
yeah, in terms of rush Dalglish partnership it'd be more like suarez would want to be rush getting ball from Dalglish.
Don’t agree on the gerrard but btw. His played his absolute best with Torres imo. Get what you’re saying. I think Suarez is a bit like messi in that the dribbling ability and link up with other players and improved the rest of his team. Salah is more like Ronaldo where he’ll stand out but maybe doesn’t impact other players as much. Saying that, I don’t think that’s his fault. Also maybe have to take into account Salah is playing in a far greater team than Suarez was. Does that make it easier for Salah? Or does that make it harder to stand out? Was Suarez a big fish in a small pond? And is Salah a big fish in a big pond?
last sentence probably nails it. suarez was surrounded by ****e in 2013/14 old man Gerrard who couldn't run mingolet in goal Flanagan playing lb clyne? sturridge and coutinho came in bit sterling was playing top of a 41212 formation. the team that started v city in the zenith of that run was mingolet johnson skertl sahko Flanagan Gerrard Henderson coutinho sterling suarez sturridge I mean there's no coincidence we couldn't defend and was socre more than team attitude. salah might have had a platform where prime vvd and alisson locked down the back while everyone pulled on closing down space so any interception was a chance.
I'm too young to accurately judge King Kenny. I mean, I remember him playing but I was a kid and no way to really judge it/nothing to compare it to at the time.
Salah's first season when he set the PL record: Karius Trent - Matip - Lovren - Moreno Hendo - Coutinho - Can Salah - Firmino - Mane We swapped van Dijk for Coutinho and Robertson took over from Moreno, but players like Clyne, Klavan, Solanke and Sturridge (the not-so-good version) were still around. It's a bit better but still a work in progress and still a score-more-than-we-concede side.
