HoH just doesn’t have a nice vibe, it feels like you’re sat in the middle of an unfinished department store waiting for your mum and aunt to stop shopping. Not exactly somewhere you want to sit for hours eating and drinking.
Hate to say "told you so", but I told you so. It was never going to work. Shame, but absolutely zero surprise. I've posted before, the centre has become dreadful. I can't understand anyone wanting to live or go into it unless they have to. Certain other areas are ok, but blinkers off, the centre is awful.
Why do you hate Hull? What has it done to you? (Uttered in a Kempton style of indignation when someone is less than fulsome about Hull).
What can be done about it then? If it's crap, and putting nice things there is destined to fail because it's crap, then how do we ever stop it being crap?
The first thing that needs to happen, before there's any chance of things changing, is the city centre being policed and anti-social behaviour being dealt with.
The Old Town and Humber Street are far better places to visit than the rest of the city centre. In fact, when you cross the bridge over the A63, it's like entering a different city.
I don’t dispute that, but it proves people are willing to go to places where they think something is happening. Arguably more people will pass HoH than many other units in the city centre. People would go if it was worth going to. It’d help if the official account had tweeted something since June too.
I think it would work if they had experienced people operating it and offered sensible terms to traders. Last summer I got in touch with them to organise an event for my office summer party, they said they’d give me a call to discuss and never did. All calls and emails I sent to them after were ignored, so no surprise it has failed. Something just very wrong with the overall running of the place and if the tone from the top isn’t right it will never succeed. Sad really.
I know you are being sarcastic .... but I really don't. I'm just a realist. I want Hull to be great. For example, I absolutely loved it when it got CofC and really hoped, even thought, it would be some sort of turning point & springboard. It seemed to be for a short while. Instead, the way the centre has gone downhill since is nothing short of startling (a problem not unique to Hull). No idea how to turn it around. The sad fact is that there is literally no reason or pull for anyone North or West of Hull to venture into the centre as there's pretty much nothing there and it really isn't a pleasant experience. (I'm specifically talking about the centre, not Old Town, Humber St etc). Beverley, Kingswood, York are all far better choices. I guess it's become a vicous circle. or downward spiral. It's sad.
I have never been one for bashing the police but I'm starting to agree with those who think they are only interested in the easy stuff, and given how dangerous things have become who can blame them? I was in my office yesterday which overlooks the A63. This nob climbed over the fence (not sure why when he could have walked around it in around 7 steps) picked up a massive concrete fence block and lobbed it into the middle of lane 1 for no reason. Two different cars and a lorry both hit it causing god knows how much damage to their cars/truck before thankfully the truck hitting it moved it to the edge. It could easily have been a fatal accident. He simply climbed over the fence and walked off towards Hessle Road. I gave the police a description and offered to send them pictures but she said if they needed them they would ring me. I left work and drove down Hessle Road as I needed to pop to the supermarket. Saw the bloke again upsetting a woman with a child outside Boyes so I parked up and rang again stating that I had eyes on him and if they wanted to arrest him for the earlier dangerous behaviour I will watch him until they arrive. She said 'thatnks for the update, we will update the case log'. I sat there for 20 mins watching him walk around abusing people before I thought **** this and left. I do not believe that there wasnt a single unit available to come to one of the most central parts of Hull in half an hour. I went to Asda and then as I left there was a fire near Gipsyville and guess what, 5 police cars all in attendance. Went back down Hessle road and the arse was sat on the floor at the boulevard crossing. If they wanted him they could have had him. Surely what he did is a serious offence? Imagine if a small car hit that, or someone swerved to avoid it causing a major crash?
Careful, they will be doing you for infringing on his privacy. You should have said there was a Hull City fan causing trouble, they would have been there like a shot. Quite a few years ago a poster on here saw a bloke up a ladder at the side of a neighbour’s house. He rang the police to be told by the person on the switchboard that she didn’t know how fast anyone could get there as they were all watching the World Cup. (football one, naturally.) That had repercussions some time later when a senior officer came across the recording they keep on an inspection.
Trouble is if anyone witnessing him being a twat gave him the slap he deserves they would be the one the police came down harder on.
