Sorry TIMK, but that poll doesn't make sense.

    The way it reads is....

Wear the poppy with or without FIFA permission

There is no option for whether you agree with FIFA ruling.

The FA have really ****ed this one up. They haven't really made it clear that it's not them creating the problem and that they're just playing by the FIFA rules. Unfortunately FIFA is not our biggest fan and will stick to a pointless rule just because it's Us.

I think the best way the FA could have handled this would have been to cancel a pointless friendly or to have asked our opponents if they would have found the poppy symbol offensive, so helping their case with FIFA.

But as usual the FA have handled it terribly and now it's reached the highest level of politics with David C wading in but at least he finds it a disgrace too.

Surely instead of the FA asking Fifa they should've asked the players to sign a petition whether they wanted to wear it or not as after all it should be someones choice to wear it.
No doubt the majority including myself wear a poppy on our jacket at work or whatever so shouldn't that apply to the England team (obviously they cant wear the needle one!) but by making it an actual personal choice surely Fifa shouldnt have a problem with it.
Maybe Fifa thought that it was some institutionalised thing where it's more advertising than remembrance which I hate to say does happen in some places such as the X-Factor where they wear massive diamond incrusted poppies at £90 each. Yes that is more money to a worthy cause but it makes it a fashion accessory rather than an object of respect and remembrance. Donate the £90 and wear the normal poppy which I find to be the most evocative.

Fifa are way out of line but the whole way the the matter has been approached and the way the poppy is being used by some brands is annoying me. It's a symbol of respect and remembrance. Not an accessory to go with your "look."

Yes, apologies, slight typo there. The the second option should read "No, they shouldn't wear poppies.." I would change it but can't seem to.

I think it's a disgrace - FIFA somehow think it's political/religious rather than a show of respect to victims of any war, irrespective of allegiance (no longer just WW1).

Are they going to ban teams whose flags have religious imagery on them?

Perhaps Blatter's looking for bungs off charities now.

    Hold on,

The only thing stopping them wearing the poppy is that it is a FIFA sanctioned match and therefore a FIFA sanctioned ref has been told to not start the match if they were wearing them. All the English FA had to do is liaise with the Spanish FA and say we are getting in another set of officials from a neutral country and are going ahead with the match regardless and will be wearing poppies. It doesn't matter if the match is not recorded as official because it will be remembered 'as the one where England stuck the V's up at Fifa and Sepp Blatter'. Seriously, what is the worst they could do? Make sure we don't get the World cup? Oh wait.......

Once FIFA allow one team to wear something then the floodgates would open and every f*cked up Country in the World would be demanding the right to be allowed symbols representing God knows what. Can you imagine the hassle that would cause? And they would have every right if one Country was already allowed.

I think FIFA are right. Don't let any symbols for anyone and the can of worms remains firmly shut.

I am not going to be popular, but .....

I wonder if the FA would be quite so supportive if a team from an Islamic country wanted to wear a symbol that remembers those who died in wars, including recent wars.

Strikes me that maybe a photo of the entire team, complete with poppies, could be released on Friday, which is Rememberence day. They could be seen arriving at the ground in a coach with a large poppy on the front.

If they did sport poppies on their shirts and this argument had never taken place, I wonder how many people would have actually noticed.

Capello must be rubbing his hands in glee as this has comletely overshadowed the furore over John Terry.

I say this as a third generation member of the RBL.
