Was just going to post this. Wonder where Mick Ronson got the inspiration from for the intro on Jean Genie?
He made no secret of the fact that it came about from him jamming that song, though he was actually playing the original 1955 Bo Diddley version.
Saw Little Richard as an intro act to Joe Cocker @ Sheffield U. student union mid to late '60's. A hell of a night that was! Cut from Woodstock... missed it, car packed in before we set off from Toronto, or was it Sudbury?
The original Bo Diddley version was slower and had harmonica on it. Which was the way the Yardbirds did it the year before Creation. Fan of both Yardbirds and Creation at the time so liked both. But the Jean Genie intro is a ringer for the Creation one.
Little Richard remains the best live act I ever saw bar none. Amazingly he had done a show in Harrogate earlier in the evening and rushing over to Brid where he could come on later than he could on a Saturday as the closing time was 1 am but on a Saturday due to the ridiculous laws regarding Sunday at the time you had to finish at 11.45. It was a Don Robinson promotion, He knew how to get his moneysworth. The council were miffed because he made more off the Little Richard concert than they did off the Stones one.
