Mick McGarry. Sadly on the island of Horta after being taken ill on holiday. A truly great loss to his wife Mary, family and many friends especially amongst the folk and live music scene in Hull and beyond. I knew Mick and his wife Mary personally, mainly through his live jam sessions in the Minerva on a Sunday afternoon and also as the lead and main man of the fabulous HillBilly Troupe and the excellent Spare Hands. Mick was the legendary larger than life character, please, if you have never heard of Mick McGarry, look him up the HillBilly Troupe on youtube and especially, my favourite of his, 'Hull's Luckiest Sailor'. The World and the city of Hull is a much sadder place today without the presence of Mick McGarry. The description of 'folk legend' is often bandied about to readily but in Mick's case it was truly deserved. Mick was and is a legend, they will not be another, a genuine very talented no bullshit Hull bloke. Mick McGarry RIP.

The great Rik Mayall, a comedy genius would have been 65 this week, I thought this was a lovely story well worth sharing. RIP Rik

My mate 54, fellow City fan, Phil Martin, only known to a few on here, been ill for a while, collapsed as he got in HRi two days ago and died, lived most of his adult life with kidney failure before his transplant about 25 years ago, he used to get me to pick him up from the kidney unit at HRI, with an arm full of cannulas, to take him to BP to watch City then drop him back off.

I shoehorned him coming to away games got him to co drive a minibus to Exeter on Elclipse weekend, then a year or so ago he went from being the fittest person I knew to walking very slow saying that the anti transplant rejection drugs were in effect causing that much calcium in his artery’s that his body was turning to stone, he missed the last three home games, I saw him last Thursday where he said he couldn’t even take the bins out.

And he got very little help from the docs with his problem , RIP Phil be sadly missed.

RIP Phil, at least early retirement gave you a chance to enjoy the too little time you had left. Great memories of away trips, and glasses raised in Ebenezer's at the next home game.
