I am a big fan of Martin Tyler's blog that he does every Tuesday. The statistics that they spend the time to look up are wonderful.

Anyway, the point to this article is the stat regarding teams with 25 points or more after 11 games. No team has ever finished in the bottom half after accumulating this many points in eleven games. The lowest is Wigan finishing 10th and additionally 21 of the 25 teams to have had 25 or more points at this stage have finished in the top 3! That is an amazing stat and puts into perspective how good this season has been thus far, even though we sadly won't, bar a miracle, finish in the top three.

Well done to Pardew and the lads!

That really does put into perspective how good our start has been! Maybe top 6 isn't out of the question, seeing as the only team on there to finish outside of the top 6 after being in our position was Wigan?... And the fact that Liverpool are playing ****e.

It shows that it is maybe more plausible than any of us have given us credit for. However I don't think we will get it and as I say this article was mainly about showing just how good we have been so far. Lets hope it continues.

  6. I'm going to be really optimistic here and say if we buy the right players in the jan transfer window, we could maybe, just maybe, nick 6th place from Liverpool, but it would be very hard. We would need to sign a top striker that could score consistently and we would need to sign a center back that could fill in for Colo and Saylor if they get injured. Also I think we should sign a back up CM. Guthrie is a good CM cover, but after that I don't feel comfortable with our options. Don't want to risk Cabaye not getting injured or suspended while Tiote is away in the ACN.

7th is my personal target for us. Lets just hope one of the top teams wins the carling cup and the FA cup final consists of two top teams or us <ok>

We should be going all out for the FA Cup this year. We shouldn't be anywhere near the relegation zone and we have the quality to win it, if we get a bit of luck with the draw (we are due a bit of luck soon)!

Agree with both. I think 7th/8th is the target now, and the chances of us getting 6th seem to hinge on how long Liverpool keep underachieving (maybe all season, seeing as their manager is "unsackable?" <laugh>

Very odd how many times the eventual champions appear not to have obtained 25 points afer 11 games, though often the eventual 2nd and 3rd place finishers have.

I'd take 7th right now to be honest. And I'd be bloody ecstatic with that.

I'd love to hear the 'real' thoughts (not the usual PA bullshite) of Carroll and Jose if we finished in Eurpoe and the bin dippers didn't. Especially Jose as he went more for Europe rather than the money...

I was saying exactly the same thing to my son at the weekend. If it did happen, I would hope that Jonas and Colo seriously rip the piss out of Enrique.:emoticon-0102-bigsm

To be honest if I was Jose I woulda stayed and fought for European football. That's all it's about nowadays, sadly. Footballers want ready made success and fame. No one sees the appeal in working for it really.

Although, to be fair, Liverpool and ready made success? <laugh> What am I saying...

Tbh, I understand why Jose left. Players were being sold and it didn't look too good at that time and he is a top player with big ambitions - he obviously thought Liverpool were going places - the mug ;) haha
