Good Morning. It's Thursday 2nd March, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

    Bamford or Rutter

Once, the first name of the team sheet, Patrick Bamford's fall from grace shows no sign of recovery, as his performance on Tuesday night showed. The 29yo looked disinterested, and seemed to be going through the motions after being bought on for the last half hour. He had six touches of the ball, and even then gave the ball away twice.

His injury problems over the last few seasons have been well documented, yet shows little sign of life when given an opportunity to shine. With nine starts, and eight substitute appearances, Paddy has racked up 827 minutes of game time, but has one of the lowest ratings on Whoscored (6.22), placing him 24th out of 28, just ahead of Gelhardt, Forshaw, Klich and Joseph.

Rutter has had a slow start to his Elland Road career, if you take his price tag into consideration. Nobody pays £35.9m for potential, especially when you're fighting for your life at the wrong end of the table. Saying that, he has shown plenty of desire when given the opportunity for game time. I'm sure we'd all like to see him getting into better goal scoring positions, but at least he is contributing to the team. Is it time to ditch Bamford, or is his experience invaluable?

Is this what a £100m midfield looks like?

Leeds would have spent near on £100m on their midfield (assuming they buy McKennie in the Summer) in the last nine months, but have they been value for money? Arronson (£25m), Roca (£12m), Adams (£20m) and McKennie (£35m) haven't exactly set the World on fire this season, though on paper, look to be reasonable additions.

Why do they find themselves at the wrong end of the table? Is this what a £100m of midfielders look like, or have Leeds overpaid? Collectively, do you see them as a stop gap, or mainstay for years to come? Some may argue that Leeds have been tactically poor in recent times, but how many points have they thrown away because of this?

Rutter every time over Bamford. Paddy's finished and at 20 Rutter will improve, Paddy won't. Rutter desperately unlucky not to have had two against Fulham. If he'd scored them wed be describing him as a world already, or at least Doc would <whistle>. There's nothing wrong with that midfield. Should be good enough for a mid table finish. Like Everton, we need to start scoring. Difference for us is we have a quality striker in Rodrigo to return this month, Everton have no one. Come to think of it, could we loan them Paddy for remainder of season, final nail in their coffin job. Incidentally, looks like the Dacha bounce has gone a bit flat. They've a big one away to Forest Sunday which will tell a story

    Morning all,

Hope we don’t sign McKennie, especially at £35m. Extremely average player - and we’ve too many of those already. Roca is better than him imo.

In fact the whole squad is filled with average players. The only stand outs for me are Wöber, Koch, Adams, Summerville, Gnonto and Rodrigo.

That together with not getting the rub of the green - it’s no wonder we’re struggling.

Hopefully Gracia can prove himself to be tactically astute enough to counteract the distinct lack of quality in the squad.

I agree. Rutter will come good, I like his attitude, yes we bought him to score goals but he links up well, defends well and the look on his face when we were singing his name as he was walking around close to the Southstand was priceless. He was genuinely shocked and delighted at the same time. Are Yanks are entitled to have a bad game once in a while and I'd rather they did it in the cup than the League. We've a good side and fingers crossed we'll still be Premiership next season.<ok>

We've one of the strongest midfields in the division. Sure, it lacks a little creativity at times but I can't remember being overrun in the midfield this season like we were last season? Genuinely can't think of one instance, maybe City at home? That's about it.

Under Marsch and Gracia, the creativity should be coming from the inverted wingers. We all like to think Gnonto and Summerville have had decent seasons but to be honest we don't exactly look great in the final third. I'd love Sinisterra to get himself fit and firing, I think he might solve alot of our issues.

Personally I'd love to sign McKennie. Think he's added a real physical presence in there. He's good in the air, quick, strong, reads the game well, understands Adams game. Adams and McKennie are a great partnership.

    Good morning everyone
Totally agree with the above about paddy, and as for the midfield, i strongly believe it will get stronger and stronger, under the coaching of Gracia.
In a short space of time Gracia has the defence looking more solid (nothing anyone could have done against the two worldies from Fulham) only concern which has been well documented on here is the striking problems, to bad we seem to be relying on Rodrigo, however Rutter could well be a great player and bag lot's of goals, in my opinion a lot to look forward to, providing we can get through this season.

‘You don’t spend 35m on potential’

We were going to spend it on CDK. There was no evidence that rutter, was anything but a rough young diamond. It’s an investment strategy. Not saying I agree with it. I thought it was something you might do in the summer but a strange choice considering our league position.

I didn’t expect much straight away from him... my ‘disappointment’ as such was I thought I’d see more signs of a turn of pace. Maybe it’s just the physicality of the league

Agree, If we stay up he stays and I’m happy with that…. As a combo they’re strong quick athletic and solid on the ball. They don’t offer creativity, but that’s fine if you have it elsewhere. So you can criticise them or criticise the ‘elsewhere’…

Meant to say, great result last night, Arsenal thumping Everton did their goal difference a lot more damage, Dyche maybe not the manager i thought he was, although i feel as though he has taken on a poison chalice in Everton. One thing when we do lose were not getting thumped, just gotta learn to win a few games and we will be ok.

Well good morning to all from a very cold Bardsey
We will know how good we are after theCHelsea game Personally it would appear that Potter has hit a brick wall and lets hope it stays that way after this result. It is so much more difficult running a big club as he has found out it wouldn't surprise to see the two managers change places with Poeeter coming back to Brighton
Good to see the results last nightand long may they continue

    Afternoon all

Looking at Mckennie he would never make a Bielsa team for a while yet, he definitely needs to shed a few pounds and get a bit fitter. I wonder if we will see a better player if this happened. I don't think he is bad player but I expected more judging him for his national team.

I would prefer to sign him and offload Harrison and James but if only it were that easy. Is McKennie better than Aaronson, someone has to be an ill afforded luxury as Forza pointed out, of average quality

Rutter for me but another who isn't quite ready for the PL, the downside is he will only ever be ready with more experience, Bamford is a waste of time, he is playing as I expected him to the season after we were promoted. In the Championship he needed 8 chances to put one away, in the PL you don't get 8 chances.

The downside with Rutter is I've read a few times, (most recently from Gracia) that Rutter works best in a two, not a lone striker

Afternoon all. Just watched Javi's press conference, and its so refreshing not to hear billy bullshit anymore. He says minmal amounts, and doesnt harp on about ****e.

Straight to the point, and doesnt give away anything about team selection and injuries! Could he be a Spanish Yorkshire man who "says what he means and means what he says" in disguise? :emoticon-0140-rofl:

He makes a lot less mistakes than Phillips did though, so on that basis, and as he’s a like for like replacement, Adams is a vast improvement on Phillips. He’s younger, captain of his country, and cost about £25m less.

I think we can allow Adams one or two mistakes. Every player makes them.

… and mckennie wasn’t against Man U- they’ve both cost us goals recently but generally Adams has been our most consistent performer this season in my view

not sure on the ‘vast improvement’ on kp comparison… no argument on the value for money point, he’s quicker but he doesn’t have KPs passing range, both quality players in my opinion.
