Your old-skool been-around-the-block hair-dryer types, would have a field day, and I actually think the players would fall in line. Players like Lyanco and DCC act all tough but they'd sh*t themselves.
But this is also the problem with the bloated squad we have. Apart from a couple of players who are our best 11? A few weeks ago everyone was saying that DCC was our best centre back, and now people saying they don’t want him playing again. Walcott has been **** for a couple of years but in the last two games has looked far better than our other attacking options The only players I’d predict with any confidence of being in the “best” XI would be KWP, Perraud, Lavia and JWP. Probably ABK as well. The rest are all much of a muchness from what they’ve shown so far, with a few being worse
What needs to happen in the summer after relegated (and we will be even though their are several **** teams this season, we are no where near good enough to take advantage) 1. Sell the players who want to go 2. Get in a strong manager and stick with him 3. Let the manager get rid of the players he doesn’t want 4. Rebuild with a clean sweep from top to bottom aka Burnley this season. 5. Let Rasmus no where near the major decisions, (actually **** him off to Turkey, his bigger club, for good.) 6. Support Wilcox and the new manager with strong leadership, which to me means you put Semmens back in charge of the day to day running of the club.
Yeah, the way the draw has panned out makes me feel slightly better. United and City get favourable ties at home, we would have had a very tough tie away. The chances of us getting to the final with that draw would have been near zero.
The only positive from this game is that if losing at home to a team 3 leagues below you doesn’t give you a massive kick in the balls and make you up your game then nothing will, for most professionals you’d think they should come out raring to go against Leicester, but almost certainly not this group
Number two is key. If we get that right, all else falls into place. Can't be cocky though and hire some unknown guy from the Venezuelan second division. Need someone with knowledge of English football and a big bloody personality. A Brendan Rodgers, Moyes type.
Unfortunately it will be a whole new 7 or 8 players starting in that game. This is another reason why I can't stand squad rotation sometimes. No culpability.
I think when you’re in the situation that we are and you’re just begging for a bit of stability you just need to pick a best 11, I couldn’t say who that is obviously but any manager worth their salt should have some grasp on who their best 11 are after 4 weeks of close obvservation on the training ground. And then stick by them for a 6/7 games, give that 11 a chance to build chemistry and work together. **** the ones who aren’t good enough to get in that 11, if they want to bitch and complain, let them. They’ve done nothing to earn the shirt anyway. Get your best 11, stick with them and you’d only imagine after a few months something will materialise and you’ll have at least got a decent spine growing and you can begin to make amendments from there. Changing things every couple games is just stupid as how can you honestly expect a team to grow from that. One loss and everything changes again, it’s not viable. Obviously Ruben has only had 3 games but I want to see him pick a team and stick by it. And not come out with statements about how it’s time for other players to get a chance, leading to 7/8 changes. No club can operate like that successfully. Todays team should have been the same as the last two with maybe 1 or 2 changes. But it wasn’t and now on Saturday we are likely going to have to watch yet another completely different group go and perform with zero chemistry or style.
Nope, not for a second. This team has had wake up call after wake up call, yet it remains fast asleep. A while ago I might have expected a response. Now? I expect stodgy football against Leicester and a 2-0 loss. I’ve been thinking this for a while, it’s why I advocated Dyche et al. We were all snobbish about the un-sexy workmanlike British PL manager a few months ago. Now?
