Ely and Perraud are like a really **** Marsden and Bridge. Ely is decent at defending and **** going forward - ala Marsden (don’t mention his wonder goal) - and Perraud is actually decent - like Bridge. But somehow none of out players is bigger than the sum of their parts like those two were…
I want us to stay up and win the FA Cup, but if we fail to do either, I just want us to win as many games as possible between now and the end of the season. If we go down, I really don't see that as a catastrophe. **** happens, iirc.
Yep, can see the logic here. It was also why I was very dubious even after the Chelsea game. I was hoping it was going to be a one off, or more of a hybrid move. Yesterday I felt we could have played Mara or AA up top with Onuachu, who for me seems to be dropping far too deep in this system. It was also a very off day for many players, Stuart A for example I thought was poor, and this is a system where everyone needs to be 100% or it wont work, in a system which is, as you say, hard to play anyhow. Leeds seem far fitter than us, so was little surprised when they seems to swarm over us. Defo for me should be a 4-2-3-1, but im not convinced Selles will go for it. We also simply have to find a way for Ely to be out of the starting line up, and perhaps even McCarthy in goal for the rest of the season. Im not saying this to keep us up as I think we are done, but limping into the Championship or giving it a right go, playing a defined system that works, will enable us to start off on the right foot, otherwise I think whoever is in charge next season will struggle to turn the tide in the first 10 games or so.
We actually did switch to 4-2-3-1 quite early on yesterday. You could see selles mouth it and hold his hands up to the players. Problem is, he put Sulemana at 10 and left the slow players on the wings. I fully agree about fitness possibly being an issue.. although to be honest most of that is probably because we can’t keep hold of the ball. It’s much more knackering defending out of possession, and our possession stats yesterday must have been horrific
I didnt really notice, being as Sulemana kept running like a headless chicken in many areas of the pitch. It didnt have any impact either way. Really hope he starts with 4-2-3-1 on Sat. Not sure I can watch the team right now either. Wouldnt bother with the Cup game midweek but the boys want to watch it, only reason I will.
Hardly surprising that sales are poor considering how the team have been playing and that the game is on a Wednesday early for TV and that tickets are nearly £20!
Reckon Grimsby could outnumber us at St Mary’s? They have 4k going don’t they? Just how poor are sales? Side note - It’s unlikely but if I was offered the FA Cup and relegation or survival and no cup, I’d take the cup. Could do without Europe in the Championship though.
Not even on my radar to go. Best part of watching it on TV is that I can do what i did on saturday and just turn it off and do something more enjoyable. Sitting in the cold at St Mary's, 40 miles from home on a weds night after finishing work early (bear in mind I work US hours so normally work 2-8pm) really doesn't appeal to me at the moment. Life can be crap enough without imposing self inflicted sorrows on yourself. EDIT: I also would get to miss the inevitable meltdown on here until at least 10pm - it can actually be the most enjoyable part of match day.
My son hopes to go to next match....hope must have a different connotation to him. Despair would be the word I’d choose
Think we will win but it will seem hollow and undeserved after getting outplayed by a lower division team. Bit like Lincoln and Sheff Wed earlier in the season
I'm going too. Not fussed about seeing the haddock, but 3 goals for Saints would be a dream outcome even against a League 2 team. With the recent months and months of such tame efforts, I don't care about the quality of the opposition as long as we win the dam game!!
