Interesting that Jamie Redknapp said on Sky after the match that he was confident we would be top 4. He had very little doubt and on the small chance we didn’t make it we would still attract the very top players as the reputation of the club and/or its manager will prove to be key.
I think his bias may be showing a little with his top 4 prediction but he's right about you having no problems attracting players. The last few years mean any player would be jumping through hoops to join you and one off season will not change that.
Well given man utd could attract players despite being well out of cl and arsenal could despite several years out.... all you need is money.
Money is something that has been in short supply at LFC. I think Klopp has done an amazing job with the funds he has and we are competing with the two Manchester clubs, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, all of whom are spending a lot more than us. This Summer will be interesting, there will be a lot of departures and not before time.
our wage bill is bigger than both Arsenal and Spurs and have spent about £200m since in last 2 seasons . Personally think talk of our "lack" of spending is overdone .
That is part of running a top club, players want big money or they go to another club. Players on big money that don’t perform is a big problem for us
yup. look at all the forwards signed over 4 windows and look at the stinking wage bill where mediocrity is rewarded.
agree that moving on our deadwood has been a problem but i was just pointing out this narrative that we don't spend is overdone in fact i would say we often exceed the market vale for transfers that are JK's first choice.
I agree with that in the sense that we have paid out a lot for Gakpo, Nunez, Diaz , VVD Alison and others. But there are some things that really bother me. The club has not acted when glaring deficiencies were evident like the CB debacle when we ended up sticking Hendo at CB and this Summer, when it was obvious we needed some midfield recruits, nothing happened and then a panic loan of Arthur Melo. These were avoidable problems but did need some money at the time
Our problem is not the purchase price, but rather the huge salaries to very average players such as OX. This must have been really galling to Sane a far more important player on a much lower salaery
Not even just money. Targeting the right type of player. We don’t need absolute superstars to join the club. Never have. We need young hungry players that want to come in and do what mane/Salah/vvd/Alison did. take a team that isn’t quite there and take them up to the next level. Make themselves a huge hero by transforming the club. None of those players were superstars but were the level below and a season or two at top club made them and us into that brilliant team. If you were a Bellingham type you should be looking going I can join that team and get into that midfield and make it my spot for the next 5 years easily. There is a couple of spaces to walk right in and make an impact there.
Thing is, the club have been brilliant over last 4 years and players like ox Hendo Milner origi have played a huge part in that. Yes some more so than others but it’s hard not to reward those players when things are going well. Hindsight is wonderful but imagine we hadn’t given Hendo a new contract. Imagine hadn’t given Salah a new big deal and they’d moved and been brilliant at s new club. Would be outrage here that players that were instrumental weren’t given new deals for sake of being frugal
it wouldn't matter of we were doing better. we have absolutely ran into the ground in legs and desire. that performance last night was utter cowardice.
There was a nervousness and fear in the team that really inhibited the performance. It was dross, lacking in ambition and enterprise. It was not what you expect from LFC and while a clean sheet and away point are something, we need to be doing a lot better
IMO this stems from a fear of getting injured, or being DEEMED to be injured, according to the quacks we have in our health department right now. One little knock and it goes beyond a ****ing joke. Palace were physical; we were too scared to scratch our arses in case it gave us arthritic fingers
