I understand that white football shorts are very popular with certain sections of the Wizard of Oz community(particularly the friends of Dorothy).
Ive got deanos boot from wembley signed and the nike red ball against in arsenal phil browns last game.
We played in black and white before joining the league. But our first colours were black and amber. The reason for white shirts in the photo was due to the stripes clashing. Notts County had a dispensation not to change kits as they were founder members of the league. Something they took advantage of in a game at Newcastle in the 60's or 70's, but in this commercial age they have away kits like everyone else nowadays.
If you look at the Historical Kit sites, nearly every club changed their kits from their original ones. some several times before settling on the one we know them for. Look at Burnley for example. A few changed late, Watford played in various colours but changed in the 1950's to a kit which was very similar to the one we wore in the 1960's before changing again to that insipid yellow. Wolves altered theirs once or twice, going from their famous old gold to the colours they have now relatively recently. Blackpool only adopted the tangerine shirts in the thirties after their owner had seen Holland play and liked their shirts. It is worth bearing in mind that Harold Needler wanted to rename us Kingston Upon Hull City AFC after the war and have us playing in blue shirts, with orange trim and the three crowns as the badge. In fact the programme for first game at Boothferry Park had a cover with a drawing of a player in that kit. Thank heaven that idea got kicked in touch. Apart from the crap kit and loss of our nickname ( come on you blues or crowns doesn't have the same ring), just imagine "Give us a K....", it would be half-time before you'd finished.
Does anyone remember about 10-12 years ago there was a competition run by the HDM to deign the next City shirt? I remember entering a design which was just like the blackburn blue and white halves but in black and amber. I cant remember what year it was so I dont have a clue which design won the competiton
Got any pics of it? See, this is why City should have a club museum. It would also dispel the sh1te spouted by other clubs that we have no history - idiots seem to think if your history isn't a massively successful one, you don't have any history.
