A very good point from someone on SaintsWeb - and one I hadn’t considered: This punts the decision on the next long-term manager into the tenure of Jason Wilcox, who will arrive as Director of Football after this season ends. Ankersen did say once Wilcox arrives he will make the decisions and RA will back off and return to ownership group level. That will then mean Wilcox arrives and appoints a head of recruitment and decides who the new long-term manager is. Perhaps no bad thing for the bigger picture in terms of empowering him and giving him a chance to have his own picks in the building with him. I’m also not convinced there were many good options available to us right now and I’m quite happy to see Ruben given the manager’s title for four months minimum.
As I said before the list of options available all look like they would be gone inside a year anyway so happy for Sellés to get the job til the end of the season. The players seem to like him and want to play for him and at this stage that is all we can hope for. I still maintain it isn’t a talent problem in the squad it is a confidence/mentality issue that has been going on for about a year now, someone who can lift the players and get them playing how we know they can do is all we need
Will be interesting to see what happens IF we stay up. There would be a lot of pressure from fans and players for Selles to be the manager for next season, but he wouldn't really be Wilcox's pick, and he may want to have his own choice in place.
Pretty sure that Selles would get a contract if he kept us up....and a knighthood, sainthood and a Blue Peter badge.
This has peeked my interest in watching Saints back to back, after the drivel we have been served up over the NJ regime. If we play Leeds like we did last week we should come away with a result. Lets get out of this mess. COYS.
