21/22 points is likely high. Assuming we're not going to be beating anyone on GD, the threshold in recent years has been: 36, 29, 35, 35, 34, 35. You have to go back to '15-'16 to find a season where a side with 36+ points got relegated. If we can get to 37, which will take 19 more points, the odds are pretty good that we'll survive. Still a fairly big ask, however. Looking at something like 5W/4D/6L from here on out.
Anyone else think Bree was a bit hard done by getting dropped today? I wonder if he is NJ thru ad thru and needed some time because he did a good job in his couple of appearances and I remain unconvinced by AMN. He's lacking an edge - passing is a bit sloppier than the rest of the team, workrate is a little lower. Its noticable and chelsea went for him in a big way today. He needed to be bailed out on a couple of occasions by JWP, walcott and armstrong because he didn't cope with fairly routine phases. Overall I think he was decent but if we had a weakness, he was it.
I can't help but feel that having Selles right there, under the noses of the board and being recommended by Ralph and still overlooked to bring in ****ing nathan jones just makes the whole second half of the season feel even more like a total **** up. He has a long way to go yet but one presser and one game and its clear he has more clout and nous than Jones. god he was a tosser.
I'm intrigued by the fact the club photographer and a camera op were both in the dressing room before and after the game. With my cynical club media employee hat on, that smells like a comms department and the hierarchy setting the table for an appointment.
Having said that AMN did have probably his best game for the club, RB is probably our strongest position when everyone is fit
I was thinking this earlier. Maybe we needed Jones to have the Ruben effect. I just wish the experiment had been a couple of games shorter, at least.
They'd better be. If they brought someone else in after yesterday and the player/crowd reaction, I'd be seriously questioning their sanity.
A couple of other observations/suppositions from yesterday. 1 - I really don't think Selles rated NJ at all - going by the press conferences, the way he set up etc etc. 2 - ABK was very much a Ralph man - he loved working with Ralph and from what I hear became very demoralised by NJ. He was front and centre of pushing Ruben forward yesterday. Methinks he's a happy boy again.
Watching the highlights (what a treat for a change) and Perraud was a man very much in need of some high fives after his goal line clearance. Loving the aggression though, very good to see.
Great result. Instead of sinking without a trace it has brought Southampton back into.the relegation battle with all clubs involved up to and including Palace!!
It was defuckinglicious as was the bottle of robust red that washed it down. About time to get up make a pot of coffee and rewatch the highlights.
The block was great, but let's face it very fortunate too. His all round play was very bad. We were so vulnerable down that side. We need KWP match-fit asap. Cheese.
even one game. If we had played like that against wolves’ 10 men we win and JWP prob has a brace and the EPL record for free kicks. Those 3 points would have made such a massive difference. Damnit.
