As long as he promotes himself into the manager role and removes himself from the 'player' part of player-manager
Let’s face it, we’re down, barring a miracle. I’d take Big Sam until the end of the season, then re-assess. Massive keep us up bonus. I know people don’t like him but I still think he’s a decent manager. Bit like Dyche. Gets lumped in with Hughes, Pulis, Pardew, Bruce etc, which is unfair. He wouldn’t be a bad shout for the Championship either. Contract until the end of the season, or an 18month contract, take stock and then go out and look for the next Mauricio Fancypants, to get us back to the Southampton way in years to come
If we can spend £60 million in January then surely there's some money for a decent manager. Give the man what he wants!
Bielsa has the benefit of being able to get players fit and drilled (needed for a long season in the Championship) and having managed a promotion from there. It would be a fun ride.
All I want is a manager that does not play with 3 CBs, plays our best players in their correct positions and hopefully has an attractive but also effective style of play.
A long shot but i'd love a young, progressive coach like Kompany (and bring back Tella with him). Burnley aren't known as big payers though and we could possibly sell him a future here with the academy too.
I am racking my brain but I can’t see who comes here. Gallardo, no chance in our position. Bielsa I doubt after his approach to the Everton interviews. There is no one obvious out there that is realistic. Im on a proper doom roll with Saints, I feel like this is only going to get worse, I haven’t felt any positivity in Jones sacking at all because it’s too late to recover and I worry about how SR might deal with the Championship.
When I talk to Leeds mates they all love him, but they all think the reason he got out of the championship was that it was lockdown season and got suspended. According to them they would fall apart in the second half of the season due to being knackered and having the imposed break because of Covid meant the players got a rest and could keep the levels up when they returned. Obviously never know if that season would’ve been different and they would’ve just carried on without the break, but that season was an odd one
Would love Pooch back, but realistically I think we'd have a good chance of landing Bielsa? Were clearly staying with the policy of buying and developing youth, so this appointment is critical.
