He’s suited by a decent surface and won on his final hurdles start before going chasing last season. He’s still pretty unexposed over hurdles and the form of his win at Warwick suggests he’s certainly capable of winning off this mark. He's a fair sort and is taken to give weight away to inferior rivals. Over at Meydan on Friday, Rodaballo (5.30 Race) was a notebook horse from last time and he looks to hold very strong claims. We'll update along with any other bets for Friday, but he will be advised as a bet and frustratingly has been backed at bigger prices with the couple of bookmakers that have priced up. It's a listed race rather than a handicap but one he's capable of winning or at least going very close in. Close up in amongst the placed horses behind an impressive winner he made a really promising start on his debut in Dubai. One of them, the name stuck and it won. Decided to keep a tally from then and I am up nearly 80 points since 16th January. But in that time there have been a couple of big priced winners. I will keep it going for a month and decide continue, or, wrap it up. EW betting, or place betting on Smarkets can be useful. If 8 horses are declared there is a market for three places. Does not matter how many are pulled, the three places remain. Similarly in a five horse race, the two places are paid if four or less runners.

Great day yesterday …hopefully more winners todays 2.40 Navan – Saint Sam – generally 6/4 A good juvenile hurdler and a smart chaser last season, although a few jumping errors limited his success. He returned to hurdles this season with an impressive front running win at Punchestown. Still only a 6yo, he’s got more improvement to come and looks like he could prove himself to be a top class hurdler over this trip or even further. It would be nice to see him given a more patient ride, especially if connections have any thoughts of the Stayers Hurdle at Cheltenham, but he needs to win here first. With bookmakers now paying Non Runner No Bet for Chetlenham, we’d advise him for the Festival as well in what looks a very open and winnable race this year. – Thursday 16th March, Cheltenham, Stayers Hurdle – Saint Sam (e/w) – generally 12/1 NRNB 3.00 Exeter – Kissesforkatie – generally Even Money. She is best in at the weights here, has her ground and the step up to 3 miles should also suit.
