RIP Burt Bacharach As a kid of the 60's, his music has always been around and I definitely count myself as a fan. About 10 years ago, Mrs B and I sprung for tickets to take her dad to see a concert of his works (at significant cost). He'd never heard of him....to say I was gobsmacked doesn't even begin to cover it! I was looking at a new box set of his collaborations with Elvis Costello, just a couple of weeks ago. It always made me smile that such a musical talent had such a terrible singing voice. I'd always assumed that if you can hear it in your head, you'd be able to replicate it from your mouth...and it seems not. Anyways, what a talent. Naming one favourite is impossible but here are a few towards the top of the list... Perfect pop. Thanks for the memories.
An incredibly influential composer and arranger. His name was ubiquitous with mainstream music for several decades and as you say, we grew up with his work. RIP!

I had a Stranglers gig poster from the music machine Camden ,adorned my bedroom wall for years until I moved out went back home to get some belongings and it had been ripped down and binned along with a nice Rezillos Destination Venus cardboard promo that I begged from HMV Oxford street , I still feel gutted about things like that
My mad mother chucked it all out. T shirts, tickets, posters. The lot. She knew it would piss me off royally...but she was that kind of woman. Thank **** I took my record collection with me! My mate Giles and I used to cut adverts for records/gigs off walls and shop fronts in the late hours of the evening/early mornings. It necessitated carrying a craft knife and wallpaper stripper, which the police could take a dim view towards, so being quick was vital. We got some incredible stuff.
Someone I worked with his first job was cinema equipment maintenance, projectors, screen replacement ect , he had the most amazing collection of posters from the late 60s and 70s , he called them his pension, In the 80s I offered him £150 for an original Godfather poster rolled not folded , he laughed at me
Yeah, I'll bet that's worth a few grand now. I'm sceptical as to whether some music stuff will retain its value. Are there going to be buyers for that poster in 20 or 30 years? A lot of railway collectables have dropped in value as the steam train buffs are thinning out in numbers...

You have to choose the right time to sell, I sold a mk1 escort Mexico for £750 in the late 70s , now when I think about it I want to punch myself in the nads same could be said for a lot of Fords I had in that era but that escort really hurts
The Stranglers version of Walk on by is my favourite cover by any band of any song ever. I got it as a white vinyl freebie with my first LP purchase, Black and White, back in 1978 and regardless of how many times I've listened to that version since it still shines! Dave's keyboard solo is one of his best! Unfortunately the version here is the radio play and cuts out the best bit!
I'm sure this is going to seem like complete overkill now but following on from my previous comment I just felt that, no disrespect @The Changing Man, but the full version needed to be here even if most of, if not all of you, are aware of the complete version! Oh, and yes I did actually sit and listen to it again before I posted the link!
There are certain songs where the shortened version just isn't acceptable. Recently, Spurf and I agreed that the full fat, album version of 'Papa Was A Rolling Stone' is the only one. Walk On By is definitely another, as is 'Common People' by Pulp. The shortened, radio version of that just pisses me off. The Clash's Armagiddeon time and Justice Tonight/Kick It Over from Black Market Clash is the only way to listen to that (and it comes a close second to Walk On By as the best cover of all time). I'll have a think about others... ...oh yeah, any shortened version of Curtain Call can **** off, too. It's 17 minutes or nothing.
Suddenly hit by a glut of gigs... ...we were lucky to get tickets for Siouxsie in Wolverhampton on my 61st. The place sold out within 5 minutes and lots of people weren't so lucky. It'll make up for missing out on The Damned on my 60th birthday, last year. We've finally committed to the Vive Le Rock Awards gig, with Lords of the New Church headlining...and with Rebellion and SLF tickets, it's just as well that I've got a job interview on Monday. By the end of April, I'll be ****ing completely deaf.
No worries mate, you are quite right the long version is the only one Can I just add that on the long version conversation that the short single version of Start! is much better than the marginally longer album version with the superfluous horns!
