I haven’t read a single message from a Leeds player wishing Jesse well and it’s been about 10 hours since he left
One agent, who asked not to be named to protect the player he represented, said this morning he no longer thought the players ‘really believed’ in the model, and the board felt the same. There had been thin ice under Marsch since a 2-1 defeat at Villa on January 13. It was the first time Leeds felt obliged to actively consider Marsch’s position.” Phil Hay Athletic
if that’s true then it’s the right call… runs of bad results eventually sap player confidence and belief. We saw that last year. Fan base unrest will have fuelled it. Ironic that the Villa game was a tipping point, for the board - considering we battered them pillar to post in it.
I think that's the point though, we've dominated a lot of games and come away with nothing or maybe a point here and there. But after the Villa game I couldn't understand how the hell we hadn't won the game and I guess the board felt the same. It looked like Marsch-ball could never succeed.
In all seriousness dirty, fans look at results and scream at the manager. If your board are basing decisions on the fact that you’ve been unlucky, opposition keeper is man of the match, miss sitters etc… then good luck choosing the next manager.
But it wasn't just the odd game. We've been "unlucky", missed sitters, faced MOM keepers in what seems like every match for months, it just started looking like we'd never win another game. He's not been sacked for being unlucky, many would say the opposite - he only kept his job this long after being lucky against Liverpool (and to a lesser extent, Bournemouth).
A 25,000 Leeds fan survey was done yesterday on what should happen to Marsch. 75% wanted him sacked, 10% wanted him to stay and 15% didn’t know. Overwhelming majority of Leeds fans wanted him sacked. Speaks volumes and Milky and Emu have every right to have their views heard but are in the minority 10% it would seem. The facts are plain to see, a year and still no coherent style of play, still cannot win games, ugly football to watch, really bad defensive record. The guy was obviously out of his depth as even the poorest manager knew how to stifle Leeds and get behind their defence. We are no further forward than this time last year, except for having a stronger squad, so imagine where would be if we hadn’t brought in a better squad. Being unlucky is meaningless as you make your own luck. A wasted year and Orta needs to answer why we went all in on Marsch
Morning. You mentioned me so I feel I should respond. Firstly, I'll back any manager that the club appoint. I didn't want Bielsa sacked, I thought once he got our injured players back that we'd have enough. However, I understood the decision and immediately got behind Marsch. Ultimately he kept us up. Bielsa might also have done but who really knows. I'll also back the new manager. I believe managers need time to do their own thing, bring in their own players and this new guy will need the summer and next January to do what he wants at the very least. Changing managers every 11 months will only see us relegated if not in the short term, definitely in the long term. Regarding the majority wanting him gone and using that to suggest you were in the right. Well the majority in Germany followed the Nazi party. Didn't mean they were right. A person is smart but people are stupid. Time will tell if it was the correct decision. Ultimately sacking Bielsa looks a good decision as we stayed up. The board have to do it again this year. It doesn't always work. Look at Southampton and their new manager bounce. Alot of dick waving and excitement around since yesterday but fans should be concerned.
Disagree with most of that Marsch didn’t keep us up the players did with a bit of luck I also firmly believe Marcelo would have kept us up Ask yourself this question why wasn’t Marcelo allowed to strengthen in the January window like Marsch was this year Then again I’m stupid, but not blind As far as I’m concerned March did sweet FA for the club
I’ve got to say, the more that comes out about Jesse and the more I witnessed when we have played this season, I’m convinced Bielsa would have done no worse had he stayed. It really was the injuries to key players that screwed us We have better players now than this time last season yet we’re probably in a worse position
The players threw Marcelo under the bus. Especially Rodrigo and Raphinha who both downed tools toward the end of his reign. I DID say that I wanted Bielsa to stay and I thought he'd do enough once the injury crisis died down. Whether you like it or not the board picked Marsch to come in and keep us up. That was his exact remit last season. He brought the team together, along with the players, and they just about did enough to stay up. Job done. Before you go off on one, I'll remind you once again that I think Bielsa would have turned it around when injured players came back although he still had a problem with both of the Brazilians Rodrigo and Raphinha to sort out. I've no idea why the board and Bielsa didn't sign anyone last January. It was clear we needed a refresh. Some report Bielsa stubbornness, some report financial difficulties. I have no idea. I've never called you stupid....or blind. Whatever...I just hope we get the right man to keep us up but let's face it the same people making this decision also made the same decision that Marsch was the right man. Yet there's alot of dick waving and celebration about being in this situation again. I'm very much in the wait and see what happens camp. I wasn't going to post today and let you guys enjoy your moment but Doc called me out so I felt I would do him the honour of a reply. I kinda knew it was going to be an "I told you so" type of day. Enjoy.
As I just said to 2p, I backed Bielsa at the time too but it's a results based business and the board have at least been consistent despite mitigating circumstances.
