There's no point over-reacting after today's loss. We all got to enjoy a few silly dreams for a couple of weeks after a season and a half of pure misery, but now the reality of a long, hard, possibly unsuccessful slog lies ahead. But no one else is Burnley in this league, we have seventeen games left, and ten wins plus a sprinkling of draws would probably be enough to get us into the play-offs.
Agree absolutely with Gozo. Burnley are head and shoulders above the rest of the division. My view us that we will either just make or just miss the play offs, not bothered either way.
They squeaked a 2-1 home win over a team 40 points behind them in the league. Wow. Should we start a Cantwell thread to eagerly follow his progress through the rest of the season?
Looking at the rest of the season, the key factor would seem to be what Wagner and his team can do to develop the players we have to make his tactics work. Players like Sara, Dowell, McLean and Hernandez have suddenly become stars in their challenging new roles after drifting under Smith's variable tactics. One remarkable difference is the praise Wagner gives to players for the way they have responded to his system. Even after the disappointing loss to Bristol, the emphasis was on improving the players' mentality after conceding a goal and the difference showed as we equalised 4 minutes after Hull scored. Conceding a goal doesn't make them bad players and they have the ability to respond as they did against Hull. Here's the latest version, focusing on Onel: https://www.pinkun.com/news/23323314.norwich-city-david-wagner-calls-onel-hernandez-improvement/ The improvement is there, but there's always room for more.
It's almost worth settling for being a mid-table Championship club just for the entertainment value that comes with Onel in the team. Who doesn't love Onel?
Sara's comments on Wagner and his own new role: "He is an amazing coach. He works with such intensity and is a great guy. We are finding our way to play to win games. He's quite similar to coaches I have worked under in Brazil in his intensity and how he likes to press, wants us to play football and enjoy it. He wants us to put on a show for our fans so that they can enjoy the games. He's given me a lot of confidence and is teaching me how to play another position. I'm really enjoying that. It's like a mix between (playing as a) number six and number eight. It's quite complicated to explain but I am enjoying it. I love football and how I'm playing. It teaches me to fight for the ball. I have to fight like a number six and play like a number eight. I'm getting used to it."
I think I read recently that Sara does not need an interpreter any more. Impressive, but can be understand the Jocks?
Michael Bailey commented in his Hull Verdict video on his surprise when Sara appeared alone for his post-match interview, no interpreter with him. If English was a difficult language to learn, it wouldn't be the world's second language. We should stop projecting our own foreign language learning deficiencies onto other people.
There are some difficulties, though, like when a Greek friend asked me to explain the difference between 'going to prison' and 'going to the prison'. The same applies to hospital and other words.
Until the next game where it is all doom. Use Aarons on the right and Mumba as the right back next year
13 points from 7 games under Wagner. Average of 1.85. The first 26 games averaged just under 1.4. The implication of that is a play off place.
Norwich City Football Club has been criticised after it sent fans a promotional gambling email. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-64744863
Random question and I feel bad I don’t know the answer, but who is the guy that translates the Spanish for (Núñez) and Portuguese (Sara when he joined)? He seems to speak both and just wondered where he learned? Any answers welcome to this ignorant fan! Thank you.
Alan Rosling. Seems to have been at Villa before so let no-one tell us Smith brought nothing to the club.
