Offer the managerial job at Hull City to Pearsons number 2 Craig Shakespeare? Knows the club, gets his chance surely he'd earn more as number one here than number 2 at Leicester? We get some continuity....
Bit of a silly suggestion. "Shakey" has never managed a club before (apart from one game as Caretaker at West Brom), we don't know very much about him, and overall there's nothing to say he'd be a good choice. Unless we offered him a permanent job straight away, which is highly doubtful because of his lack of managerial experience, there is nothing to stop him joining NP at Leicester.
Yup that was what I was thinking - even better a Shakespeare/Walsh joint managership a la Gritt/Curbishley which worked for a time for Charlton. Then Pearson is truly @@@@d if he does go
He's been working behind the scenes, he knows the script. He knows this division. If we work on your philosophy no number 2 would ever get the opportunity. I think it's a great idea, not too much interruption with continuity for the players in terms of training structure, playing strategy etc. Phil Brown was a number 2, as was Nigel Pearson as have many top managers. You don't know until you give them the chance. Frankly, he's more than likely a better option than 'most' the other candidates being suggested. Your reply was plain daft, suggest engaging brain before replying, or better still, don't bother.
So you're saying offer the job to Shakespeare, even though you know nothing about how good an assistant manager he is, let alone a manager. I wouldn't mind him being given an interview, however there's no way he will stick around for one as he will be off with Nigel and Walshy to Leicester. Still sounding daft?
Yes, incredibly. He's been a part of the back room staff that have helped elevate this club over the last season and a bit, so yes, i'd say he's been quite a good assistant manager. In terms of would he be a good manager, no one knows, but he's had a decent apprenticeship. Managerial appointments can always be a bit hit, miss or maybe. I don't see how offering him the opportunity would be any riskier than a brand new team in place.
Craig Shakespeare took control of one match while here, when NP was in hospital. Last season, away at Doncaster. Not a good record.
You don't base a decision on one match! NP would probably have lost it too, as it was only 1 game, they were probably playing to NPs game plan and pre match preparation anyway
Think that's a good idea. Offer Shakespeare and Walsh it then watch NP fail at Leicester without them... We all know Walsh is the brains behind the signings, pretty sure Shakespeare is more active on the training field and they will have both picked up things from NP.
The point is though, you don't know anything about him. You don't know what his role within the club was (past the official job name), you don't know how good he is at his job, you don't know what sort of relationship he had with our players. You've based your entire argument around facts and points you don't even though, which is pretty ridiculous. Giving Shakespeare the permanent manager job just because he played a role, however big or small (you don't know), in our recent successes is plain daft.
Offering him and Walsh promotions BEFORE NP decides he's definitely leaving is an interesting idea though. If they agreed in principle to take the position would NP be as keen to leave knowing he was going to have to find a whole new team rather than taking one he knows? All done behind closed doors he then turns round in the press in a couple of days and says he only spoke to them to tell them to stick the job after last year's events and suddenly there's enough fans back on side because they believe it.
Awwww I'm slightly gutted, I thought this thread was about me......I thought i'd made it to City Fandom!
