Heck!! Nearly forgot to put this up Apologies for that - it doesn't give anyone much time to post their predictions. There are FIVE Championship games to predict on this month. The Stoke game shown in red is a remnant from the FA Cup 4th round weekend but was still predicted on in January. DO NOT INCLUDE IT HERE! Saturday 4th February CHAMPIONSHIP Swansea City 15:00 Birmingham City Saturday 11th February CHAMPIONSHIP Sheffield United 15:00 Swansea City Wednesday 15th February CHAMPIONSHIP Swansea City 19:45 Blackpool Saturday 18th February CHAMPIONSHIP Blackburn Rovers 15:00 Swansea City Tuesday 21st February CHAMPIONSHIP Swansea City 19:45 Stoke City Monday 27th February CHAMPIONSHIP Swansea City 20:00 Rotherham United Predictions must be posted ON THIS THREAD ONLY by 14:59 GMT on Saturday 4th February 2023. As usual, we need the total number of points gained, total number of goals scored and total number of goals conceded from the 5 Championship games shown above. Good luck!
A re-cap on February's scores: Swansea 3 Birmingham 4 Sheffield United 3 Swansea 0 Swansea 2 Blackpool 1 Blackburn 1 Swansea 0 Swansea 1 Rotherham 1 We end the month with: 4 points, 6 goals scored, 10 goals conceded. The final chart looks like this: Points scored as follows: Aswan_dam 0+3+0=3 Taffvalerowdy 0+5+1=6 Swantastic 0+5+0=5 Mono 0+3+0=3 Glamexile 0+3+1=4 Neveroffsidereff 0+3+0=3 Nicewelshlumberjack 0+3+3=6 55282 3+3+0=6 Daimungeezer 5+1+1=7 So this month's winner is Daimungeezer with 7 points in a tight-scoring month. Runners-up are Taffvalerowdy, Nicewelshlumberjack & 55282 with 6 points. Revised league table to follow shortly...
Revised league table as follows: We have a new leader out on their own! 55282 moves into pole position after a solid 6 points and leads by 2 from Glamexile with Taffvalerowdy a further 2 points back. Last year's winner, Daimungeezer, moves up to joint 4th place. How pessimistic are you all feeling between now and the end of the season?
I should have been less pessimistic in January …. I could see the rot setting in, but it’s taking longer. Odds on one of QPR or us being relegated?
An average of around 47 points has been enough to survive the drop in the Championship, but the magic number has varied significantly over the years. Just 40 points would have beaten the drop in both 2011-12 and 2015-16, whilst 54 points were not enough to keep Peterborough up in 2012-13. My guess is 50 points will be more than enough. The question is can we get 7 points from 12 games! If pressed my predicted drop 3 are Blackpool, Huddersfield and Cardiff.
Over the last five years, clubs have needed just 43 points to stave off relegation - I think it will be higher than that this year. 50 should be enough - but where are they going to come from?
Good question! Here are our remaining fixtures Luton a Boro h Millwall a Bristol City h Neighbours a Coventry h Wigan a Huddersfield h Preston h Norwich a Hull a WBA h I was confident about getting at least a point from the neighbours but they will be eyeing this one as a 3 pointer. We play other clubs in trouble - Wigan and Huddersfield and my worry is that they will be up for the fight more than we are. I am therefore going for, stupidly I know, wins at home against Preston and Coventry and sneaking a couple of draws elsewhere along the way.
