Bristol City January transfer verdict: Most of Pearson's wishes are granted as optimism abides Five players departed the Robins and three were welcomed to the club including two exciting forwards Bristol City January transfer verdict: Most of Pearson's wishes are granted as optimism abides - Bristol Live (bristolpost.co.uk) 5 leave, 3 join, wage bill lowered, onward and upward..
I said on the other thread that I'm disappointed that we didn't strengthen at the back - considering we've been weak there for the best part of 2 seasons. With Kalas out and without the option of Klose we are pretty threadbare in that area. Having said that, our back line is the same as it was before the window and we've been ok all January - plus we have more striking options, so overall it's an improvement. For me, it's like having a car with a dodgy alternator. We've upgraded and fine-tuned the engine and fitted a fancy stereo, but we've still got the dodgy alternator and chucked away the old spare we had in the garage!!!!!
Forget West Brom or Middlesbrough, Bristol City won Transfer Deadline Day: Opinion https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/f...istol-city-won-transfer-deadline-day-opinion/ Very positive comments about our January activity coming from this article.
Proof is in the pudding....lets hope that if these players are good, gel and Nige plays them in right positions/formations and with the right tactics, where it might take us... a continuation of scrapping around the relegation zone is not an option.. I'm excited to see where we're at...

This window has been managed incredibly well. We've moved off more than we've signed, reduced our wage bill and yet we look a much stronger team. Really hope we can stay up this season because I look forward to how NP uses the money from the inevitable sale of Scott.
Funny how a lot of the old squad remained first-teamers until either injured or sold. Massengo is an exception but as posted on another thread he stopped at 99 games for us - wonder why?
We have, my only note of caution is how thin the squad is in experience. One or 2 more injuries in the wrong area, and we are in trouble. However, if we can make it to May and retain our Championship status, we are well set to build that depth in the summer with the remaining money from the sale of AS.
As it stands, these players will leave Bristol City this summer https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/as-it-stands-these-players-will-leave-bristol-city-this-summer/
Getting to the summer with our Championship status in tact is job one for all to complete. Next season is a completely different kettle of fish because there is the possibility that one or two of our young guns could head out the door and that could seriously affect our squad. Should there be serious money on the table for Scott then he will be gone but the question as to where any surplus cash goes is a concern for me. Looking back to the time when cash was flowing through our doors after some players left for big money I didn't see much, if any, of that windfall being well spent on strengthening the team. The January window is always a hectic time and a lot of clubs go crazy with money that a lot of them don't have, but we kept our business down to an acceptable this time out. The overall financial picture must be starting to be realistic, and for that stability I think we have to tip our hats to Nigel and whoever else was involved. We are never going to break the bank in our transactions but we have to bring in decent players on fair salaries if we want any chance of improvement.
this is echo's of the pre Covid run up and last time we made a profit!... Plan then was bring in young players and improve them, get quality players in on loan and "try before you buy" ... Well we did that with 3 of them and have 2 left! the third in somes opinion was wasted as not played in position and frustration was the result with eventually being shipped out to Coventry where he is doing very well... water under the bridge now though. Kalas and Dasilva .. both show good signs and Jay at times can be a handfull [ so was HNM up until NP arrived! ] .... our front line! Weimann / Wells / Conway / Bell / Cornick / Pearson. dont really have a big target man now!
A good title to express optimism .. Done an end of season " league table! featuring top 16 clubs pre tonights game!...... A tad more biased to City ! [ we only lose 4!! and taking results of last 10 fixtures as a guide / starting point to workout " a final league table"... not fool proof as some teams actually play more games ! we play Luton / Sheff: A and Burnley Middsbro H !!!!! 7 of the teams fom 5th place to 17th .....so 6 of the bottom teams OPTIMISM [ formula ] = Discount points from top 4 [ same for all teams ] add on 2pts per game for bottom 7 teams so we finish 8th= of 3 teams on 66points .... 6th team is on 67 and 5th team is 68 ... so SO it is still a dream to get there ... top 6 maybe WEMBLY ?????? then relegation in 2023/24 from the prem!
