It probably is something along these lines, but it still just seems so messy to me. In an industry of such attention to marginal gains, so much money and so much at stake it's incredible that clubs can't figure out a better way of handling the transfer window.

It sort of makes me wonder, what would happen if there were no transfer windows and you could just sign players any time. Would anyone ever actually move without the pressure of a looming deadline? Or would it just be a constant cycle of everyone waiting for someone else to twitch?

You'd still need cut offs or players would just jump ship to title challengers or away from relegation sides.

I understand what you're saying and it is crazy how deals can fall through (didn't we miss out on someone under SIlva at the last minute too?) but for the most part teams will wait until the last minute to try to get a cut price deal.

To be fair, there's a month. That is the leeway that covers for administrative hiccups and so on. If you choose to push it to its absolute limit then sometimes you'll miss the deadline. Even if they added an extra week for these edge case deals, someone would then be unhappy that a deal they tried to do on the last day of that week didn't get done in time...

It's not done though, is it?

Nor is it a loan with an option, because they can change the price.

Chelsea gave another clear example last night that they don't give a **** about their players (it wasn't just Simons). It was Ziyech and Hutchinson too

It was left too late. It didn’t help that the French Window shut at 10pm. Hopefully will go ahead in the Summer.
Sounds like Chelsea also had a similar problem but they are appealing the decision to stop the transfer!

They can't change the price, he's a free agent in the summer.

Ziyech wasn't to do with Chelsea, he had the same issues we had with the French Federation ****ing them around.

No one said the deal was done weeks ago, just that it will have been in the offing weeks as targets simply aren't identified, scouted negotiated and signed in a day or two. It was a comment on Baz's grand announcement that the player 'just landed' or words to similar dramatic effect. I suspect Baz himself will have been told who was getting lined up but embargoed. The fact his name stayed out of it until relatively last minute shows we may be a little less transparent or naive in recruitment as may have been previously alleged, but the attempt didn't just come out of nowhere in reality. Besides it looks like the agreement between the clubs will stand for summer. Looks like it was purely an administrative hurdle.

They've got an option so he's essentially got 18 months left.

Chelsea sent the wrong paperwork 3 times. They're an absolute ****show. There's no way that wasn't done on purpose.

Loans with options are perfect in 90% of cases as you'd expect clubs to act in good faith as most of them do. But Chelsea are the scum of the earth and represent everything that's bad with football. I hate (with a passion) how their club runs

Much last minute transfer business is due to needing to shift people out, and for EPL clubs to finalise incomings before they loan players out.

Chelsea might actually be the most loathsome club when it comes to transfers. Even the other big clubs like Liverpool, Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal seem to have nurturing attitude towards their youngsters. They’ll loan them out when they need game time and let them leave for good if they’re not in their long-term plans.

Chelsea on the other hand are proper scummy with it. They’ll sign people on 6-year contracts and just continuously loan them out whilst other clubs pay their wages. Was hoping Chelsea would go bust after Abramovich but this American tosser seems even worse.

It would suit me fine if we never loaned another player from Chelsea. In fact, it would be great if the entire EFL boycotted loaning Chelsea players.

Closing at 10pm isn't ****ing people around. If you want to sign players from France you have to do it before then. Absolutely nothing controversial or awkward about that.

I'm personally not too bothered about the failure to land another winger as well as Ebiowie, as can't quite see how we could fit both of them into the team to be honest. I wasn't there on Saturday but we appear to have scored three at home by playing two central strikers feeding off each other with Tufan tucked in behind. If we play two out and out wingers we either risk going to 4-3-3 with Oscar isolated again (and where does Connolly fit in?). Or 4-4-2 with only two central midfielders and the wingers being asked to really do a lot of defensive work - in which case could see teams running through us.
Currently not even sure where Ebiowie fits in tbh.

Rosie will want 2 good players fighting it out for each position. It's a 25 man squad. It's not difficult to see where any of them fit in. You need 18 not 11 on a matchday.

Yes, even a couple of times this season we’ve had an injury in the warm up and a player has had to come onto the bench last minute, it happens.

Yes, he’ll be our new Starman and rise to Fame in the next few Golden Years of our club’s history. I can’t wait to Drive In Saturday and see him play. Let’s Knock On Wood and hope there’s no Sorrow if it doesn’t work out.

with 11 dead wood players gone in Jan & off the wage bill, keeping Tufan & with the 3 new players coming in I think we have a much more balanced squad now & there is no reason why City can't finish in 6th place. Really looking forward to the remaining 17 games with City banging in some goals & getting the points needed!!!
